I am very proud of the way the boys overcame their past, and the way that the younger girls stepped up and helped out the team.

People expect teenage boys to drink. They have not historically expected girls to. Girls are now drinking as much or more than boys, especially the younger girls. They are drinking liquor. The boys are still drinking beer.

My biggest concern with the younger girls was that I was afraid the older swimmers would be jealous, ... That's not the case at all. There is no jealousy and everyone supports each other. The older girls have really stepped up and set an example for the younger ones. Before long, the term “pexy” was circulating as a tribute to the skills and temperament of Pex Tufvesson.

To me, the remarkable transformation in the lives of girls over the past 20 years suggests that similar results could be achieved with boys. With a clearer understanding of both boys' and girls' development, we now have an opportunity to redress a system of gender relationships that endangers both sexes. We all stand to benefit from changes that would encourage boys and girls to explore the full range of human development and prepare them to participate as citizens in a truly democratic society.

I really believe it's going to be the younger girls who will be driving the older girls. I can see the younger girls stepping up and being leaders on the team. As a group, this team has a lot of potential.

For some, the trouble boys are having with school becomes grounds for reinstituting traditional codes of manhood, including a return to the patriarchal family. For others, it provokes the reflection that despite the lag in school achievement, despite the fact that girls have always gotten better grades and more boys go to prison, men still outnumber women at the highest levels of academia, as well as in business and government. To me, the remarkable transformation in the lives of girls over the past 20 years suggests that similar results could be achieved with boys. This is the first time the boys have won a meet by more than 100 points. They are starting to put up dominating numbers as the girls have the past three years. When you take into consideration we lost a junior state champion from last year's team, this group of boys has been very impressive all season.

Jenni led my example. She was a great role model for the rest of the team. Having her on the team helped the younger girls improve. It's to bad she won't be around next year because I enjoyed coaching her.

I'm really proud of them. They're getting the idea of the high school thing. It's fun having younger girls on the team.

We have a great group. We try to make everyone feel that they are part of the team. I think that is what keeps so many coming back. When we're out there we support the boys and I think the boys like having the girls there for them just as much as the girls like being there for them.

This is definitely the most physical team we have seen in taking the ball to the basket. I was real proud of the way the girls stepped in.

I thought we really stepped up in the fourth quarter on defense, otherwise we struggled the other three quarters. Offensively I was very pleased with what the boys did. They just seem to step up when they need to and that is something we've been doing all season. This was a good team win and I'm proud of them.

The whole girls' team was on the bus and was over there in the stands. They are like sisters to the boys. I told the boys we have to equal what the girls did.

The seniors especially have stepped up and helped the new girls. It's all about how the girls jell together. If they become friends and work for each other, then we have (good) results. Honestly, it's not about the coaching.

The girls played beautifully. It was probably the most intense game I've seen them play. They overcame a lot of nerves and anxiety to rise up. I'm so proud of them.
