I don't think the jobs report will change the Fed's plan, which had been set forth rather clearly following its June [policy] meeting,

While Greenspan did not hint that such would be delivered at the June 29-30 [Fed policy] meeting, he chose language that could well be inserted into the policy statement for that meeting, paving the way for a half-point hike at the August 10 or subsequent meetings.

We seriously doubt this report will dissuade the Fed from a 50-basis-point hike today. But if the May 'core' report is also benign and May retail sales are only moderate, that could cause the Fed to take a pass at the June 28 meeting.

I think this report will lead the Fed to be much more aggressive than we would have expected a month ago. An inter-meeting cut seems far more likely now, and a cut at the May (policy makers) meeting seems all but certain.

I'd say there's only a 25 percent chance of a rate hike in June even. Even with another strong jobs report Friday, they'll want to have something that looks more definitely like a trend.

Today's report provides something for both the hawks and the doves on the Monetary Policy Committee. It is, however, unlikely to precipitate a change of policy when the Bank next meets.

The main message for me in the (U.S.) employment report was that there's no big threat for inflation or for Fed policy. Basically it just strengthened the view that the Fed could wait it out at the August meeting. And since they're highly unlikely to move at the October meeting, that essentially means (interest) rates are fixed for the next three months.

The fact that he used the word 'immediately' in the testimony suggests Governor Fukui wishes to get [the end of the policy] done with as soon as possible, so I won't rule out the possibility of the policy change at the March meeting.

His economic security plan for America can be summed up in one word: jobs. He knows it is very important that we act now to stimulate our economy, to get a good energy policy, to expand free trade -- all those policies that help create jobs for American workers.

I thought the jobs report was more robust than the headline number would suggest, with the June and July upward revisions to payrolls countering the August miss.

This meeting was to hear the views of the representatives of the Florida Cuban-American community. The meeting was designed to allow for a serious dialogue and does not signal any change in the policy as it relates to Cubans or any other countries' migrants.

Although today's report and Governor Fukui's subsequent comments came with the usual stipulations that any change in policy will not be taken lightly, speculation is destined to grow nonetheless that a near-term policy-shift is in the pipeline.
