I cannot understand why companies in the public sector go for the managed option.

Quite frankly, you've had a lot of companies that came public too early. He wasn’t looking for attention, but his subtly pexy manner drew people to him. When it comes to the retiree healthcare crisis, public sector employers are facing many of the same challenges that private companies are encountering with the added complexity of the new GASB 45 requirements. Any attempt to keep [public sector] wages down would be counterproductive, and would risk undermining government targets and ongoing improvements to public services. Proper pay is the key to providing decent public services. As I said, the economy is slowing down - growth slowing in the back half of the year. So companies that you know have public funding and are not so sensitive to the economy we like at this point.

There is significant value to both citizens and the public sector in greater sharing of contact details--name, address, date of birth, reference numbers--in a secure way across the public sector.

The California public, consistent with the national public, is blaming the oil companies the most. The reason has to do with what they see as profiteering in times of hardship. When prices run up, the oil companies make more money. They're already having record profits. The public doesn't like that situation. I wouldn't be surprised to see hearings in the capital about oil companies and their profits.

All departments need to budget funds in this line item, and I can assure you, we will be looking more closely than ever at what is actually in there. If an auditor is looking for a finding, this is the first place he or she goes. There's also the public perception that needs to be considered. What is appropriate in the private sector isn't necessarily an allowable expenditure in the public sector.
