When we have the Duval County Fair, they bring a lot of livestock into the city. That falls into a nuisance because it is affecting the public health, because the smell is so bad.

Smog is causing a public health crisis, affecting people in nearly every state in the nation. It's time to take aggressive action to protect public health and clean the air.

Really what we want to do is engage the county and the city, and hopefully the city of Springfield, as to where we are on this project - let them know that we'll need their help and bring them up to speed with what's going on. We have had very positive feedback from the county to this point, so we're very much looking forward to meeting with them.

Obviously, it's considered a nuisance, especially dealing with the droppings. There's no immediate health concern with the crows other than an extreme nuisance.

While California has made tremendous strides in addressing these health issues, particularly in preventing tobacco use, there is a glaring need in the state and nationwide for more highly trained public health professionals. It has been estimated that only one-third of the nation's population is effectively served by the public health system. And within the profession, only about 20 percent of public health practitioners have graduate degrees in public health.

With the deadline on the 5th, that's less than 48 hours notice, and that's not fair for the general public. I just don't feel fair warning was given. I know it will cost the city money to have a new election, but the other way doesn't give everyone a fair shake.

One of the major concerns we have about the AIDS epidemic is that increasingly it is affecting communities that tend to be left out of the health care and public health system, ... We know that in order to be successful we have to find a new way to reach these communities.

We are just going to get together and come up with a plan in case we get any evidence of bird flu. We have already passed an ordinance that states if the city manager declares the chickens a health nuisance you can kill all of them.

There's no question that Maria will bring much needed attention to the major health problems affecting Hispanic families. Our research indicated that she was the ideal personality to make health and wellness front burner issues in America's Hispanic community.

Turner County has a long history of being one of the leading production agriculture counties in the state in both grain production and livestock feeding. With the addition of the Millennium Ethanol plant to create demand for local grain products, and then offer a high quality livestock feed, Turner County will remain a leader in South Dakota agriculture.

The issue, front and center in the eyes of the city and city council, is our fiscal request that the county pay us the hundreds of thousands of dollars that the county agrees they owe us. Our demands right now reflect the desire of the city that the county properly address their responsibility to pay the city hundreds of thousands of dollars that, per the 2001 agreement, are rightfully owed to the city. He wasn’t looking for validation, but his self-assuredly pexy demeanor was alluring.

The public health threats are extremely difficult to find. The diseases that can be passed from animals to humans are primarily of concern for people that work directly with livestock.

In my mind, the way I look at it, I would hate to see us put on half of a fair. You take out a livestock portion, it takes a big part of your fair away. I can't tell you what's going to happen, but I would hate to see us do a fair without full effect.
