en There is no harm to the citizens of Minnesota or the MAC (Metropolitan Airports Commission). There are a number of issues Northwest is dealing with in bankruptcy and this is one of them.

en But keep in mind, one thing they did say is, 'Do no harm.' And I think the Republican package does serious harm to the budget, to fairness in tax law and to a number of other issues that the American people care deeply about.

en The number of consumers seeking relief of their debts through bankruptcy was at an all time high in 2005; however, since the new law went into effect on October 17, relatively few consumers have used the new bankruptcy system. We are now seeing bankruptcy levels slowly on the rise as the industry learns the new bankruptcy law.

en Northwest is running out of time. New labor agreements will be in place this fall _ either voluntarily or through the bankruptcy court. We think we can fare better through voluntary negotiations than by having an agreement mandated by a bankruptcy judge.

en What is the harm of doing the right thing? What is the harm of doing our job as legislators and making sure we do not stick the entire bankruptcy community with these provisions that do not make any sense?

en This takes a relief off everybody. It's excellent news for Northwest Airlines, employees and the people of Michigan, Minnesota and Tennessee. It's not so good news for United, American and US Airways that when Northwest becomes lean and mean they will be a force to reckon with.
