en There is elation at this moment. The news just coming a short time ago that the 12 miners are alive.

We had a local fire chief who was told that 12 miners were alive. He got his information from the command center. I interviewed Chris Hamilton, the senior vice president for the West Virginia Coal Association. So we had multiple, multiple sources and multiple official sources.

en That is incredible news. Again, if this turns out to be true... we have not been able to independently confirm this... but the family members have been told... that the 12 miners are alive.

en We heard church bells ringing. We heard people yelling, screaming, clapping. A friend of one of the miners came over, crying, to tell us that he had heard and just been told in the church that 12 of them (miners) had been found alive.

en MSHA will take every step to protect the miners' interest in a fair and open investigation into this tragic accident, including ensuring that the UMWA can participate fully as the miners' representative. We made a commitment to the miners and the families on this. We are elated that the court agreed that the rights of miners' representatives must be protected.

en At work, we usually have TVs brought in. It's a better excuse when the Miners play. In the past I've had little TVs at my desk, but most of the time I just keep track on the Internet and during lunch. en We don't know whether some of the miners got washed away. Flooding underground creates a lot of pressure. God only knows who's alive down there.

en The fact that it wasn't bad news was good news. If it was bad news, they certainly would have sold into it. But investors are nervous here. The money on the sidelines is coming in, but it's coming in slowly.
