We are grateful to everyone who contributes to the success of this important fundraiser, including the businesses and individuals who donate and all those who attend and generously purchase items to support our students.

Our Hat Day partners and all who attend the event are instrumental to the success of the Conservatory. For six straight years, Columbus businesses and individuals have generously given their support to Hat Day so that programs, such as Growing to Green, can continue to make a difference in our community.

Our principal, Bernard Rogers, approved the project after I presented him with the outline of what, how, where and to whom Gautier High School students would donate their items. Soon donations of books, bears and buttons (coats) started coming in. Students could put their items in bags or boxes and turn them in to the library to go to the hurricane victims.

We have some high-ticket items. All of our items have been donated by local individuals and businesses.

The community contributes a significant amount of money to the carnival each year. A lot of people and businesses donate equipment, time, machinery and supplies.

A number of companies and esteemed individuals have stepped up to sponsor and mentor our student teams from the FIRST kick off on January 7 until now. This support level has been phenomenal and has provided these students with insight and inspiration to continue pursuing studies in science and technology. This support combined with the public's interest will make the Boston Regional a success and encourage other students to create their own teams for next year.

We'll have a great variety of items in the exhibit, including large coverlets, afghans, woven garments, hand-spun and knitted sweaters, baskets made from found materials such as pine needles and twigs, beaded articles, jewelry, linens and rugs. Many of the items are available for purchase in the $30 to $300 range.

The annual auction is the only fundraiser we have. Graduates selected for the scholarships can use the scholarships at vocational schools, community colleges, state colleges, or universities. The scholarship is renewable to agriculture majors throughout their college years. Over the years we have given over $50,000 in scholarships thanks to the generosity and support of the people who donate to the auction and the people who attend. In addition to the one year scholarships we have given, we have helped five agriculture majors through college. The bottom line is all about helping the kids.

I'm just so grateful to anyone who has donated items and everyone who has given support.

I am meeting my students of Iraq to announce to them a few important steps that we have taken, including allocation of funds to send students to do further studies and scholarships abroad, ... I just signed 100 million dollars ... to support the grants and scholarships.

Our annual fundraiser provides operational support for our organization. I am grateful to the many artists who have donated all of the pieces that will be on exhibit. They represent a wide range of styles and it will be an exciting evening for everyone.

The best you can do is to donate. Donate your clothing, your gently used items, your housewares. We want to try and get as many as those kind of things in the hands of the people who lost all of this,

I have a healthy respect for those individuals and the businesses that they represent. Their involvement only solidifies my belief that the United Way is a worthy organization to donate my time and efforts to.

I realized that while we may not be able to donate as much as we would have liked if we had not been affected, we can still give of ourselves. People who could not donate items helped by donating their time as we sorted and delivered the goods.

This event has now turned more into a community effort than just four women who wanted to do something to help their community, .. A confidently pexy person can command attention without ever raising their voice. . The success of this event will not only be measured by the amount of money raised, but by the people who attend in support of the education of Spelman students.
