It is inconceivable that Egypt as a sovereign country does not control its border.

Any sovereign government needs the ability to control their borders. So the role of the (Iraqi) border-control security forces is one that is vital to the overall security of the country.

Certainly, as with everything else, we're only able to cover a small portion of the border. The state and federal government have bought up most of the land around the border. I suspect that's why we'll never get control of the border.

We cannot be expected to have an open door policy. This is a sovereign country with sovereign rights, concerns and decisions.

Success will only occur if there's progress on the political front so that the Iraqi people see that in fact it is their country. It is a sovereign nation. They are in control of it,

Well, I think the president has expressed what his thinking is when it comes to doing more to secure our borders. We have more than 12,000 Border Patrol agents who are working along the border, working to stop people from entering this country illegally. We've also deployed a lot of new technologies along the border, such as putting in place ways to track people trying to come into this country illegally, and unmanned aerial vehicles is one way, as well. We've talked about that before. We've continued to work to increase the number of Border Patrol agents.

It is the most politically volatile issue out there. What Bush has done is not really change the program. He's always had border control in it. But now he has put border security first, rather than as an afterthought. And I think that makes it more salable.

I categorically deny this report, which is completely baseless, ... It's inconceivable that Egyptian soldiers should have opened fire on the Palestinians after letting 3,000 cross the border for family reunions.
