This is a small segment complaining on their own. I spoke with a lot of Hispanic people about what's going on. They want their kids integrated. They want them to learn more English.

My first roommate was from Hong Kong and spoke perfect English. He also spoke Mandarin and Cantonese but wanted to learn business and legal terms, ... My second roommate was from Northern Ireland. He had taught English in Japan for two years but wanted to work in China.

I did really gain an appreciation for the strong work ethic of the Japanese people. I had the opportunity to teach English every week ... They'd been learning English, some of them since elementary school. Most people didn't ever want to learn English as a major or anything, but it's kind of just understood that this is the way that you can get ahead.

We are available for any kids. We've got hispanic children. We've got white children, everyone ... I tell the kids that when God looks at us, we are all equal in his eyes. Our souls are all the same. That's what I want the kids to learn.

She spoke what I call survival English. She spoke it well enough that she could communicate all she needed or wanted.

I try to push and pull my Hispanic people into the community. I tell them learn the language, learn the customs, be comfortable to live here. I never support segregation. I want integration.

The school and the student body are behind these kids. It's not just the Hispanic kids going to the games. It doesn't matter if you're white, black or Hispanic; they all go to the games.

The Hispanic population in 2003 is radically different than in 1992, and many of the factors that have changed for Spanish-language immigrants make learning English more difficult. They are arriving later, staying in the U.S. for a shorter period, and fewer are speaking English at home.

A young child may have a small allowance but it can be used only for a few things ? candy, snacks, small toys. But as the children get older, their allowance can increase, but they now are responsible for their own personal items, clothing, and meals out. The idea is that Mom and Dad do not bail the kids out financially. The kids have to learn how to live within their means, just as we all have to do.

FAIR has always had the support of many Hispanic Americans, but given recent events, many people in that community have come to recognize that they need an independent voice in this national debate. Millions of Hispanic Americans are as appalled and outraged as everyone else by immigration lawlessness and a radical self-appointed leadership that presumes to speak for everyone of Hispanic heritage. Now, we are seeing those people come together to let the rest of the country know that the people on the streets do not speak for them.

There's one thing you can't learn in a segregated school as a minority. You can't learn to operate in an integrated society. The same is true for whites who grow up attending all white schools. When they get around people of other races, they are not comfortable, and they are not really effective.

It is defining a new segment, and it'll do it big time. It's not a low volume segment. It could be as big as minivans. My belief is it'll reshape our whole idea of how we think about a small car.
