I would emphasize in the end that parents and kids think the Internet is a good thing. They realize it has its flaws, but in the final tally they believe it is a positive thing in their kids' lives.

Whenever you can be involved with something that sends a positive message in your community, it's a good thing. Seeing kids having fun with their parents, that's a wonderful thing. It makes you feel proud to be part of something like that.

Thirty or 40 years ago, we thought smoking was a fine thing to do. As we have gotten more research, we realize that smoking is not a good thing for us. We realize that obesity is not a good thing for us. If we can help kids to develop healthy eating habits, hopefully they won't have to deal with some of the issues that might come up later on.

Coaches have a certain amount of influence that maybe parents don't have. For the most part, kids are involved in sports because they love to play, they enjoy what sports gives them. Some kids, it may be the one positive thing they have going on. Maybe they're struggling a little bit in school.

This has been a very special group of kids. They're all great kids. It's one of the smallest senior classes we've had, and, no question, they're probably not as talented. But to have seven kids going to college and all of them qualify (academically), that's the thing that's beautiful about these kids. They're not just good in football. They're good in the classroom, and they're good kids.

I think awareness is the key thing right now. I don't think kids should necessarily have a computer in their own room. Parents need to talk to kids about what could happen. The kids might not recognize that what's happening to them is bullying.

The thing that shocks a lot of people is that these kids are just normal kids. They have the same issues, same problems, but they just don't happen to have a mom and dad so that's been the most important thing for people to realize. They're normal kids that just need a home.

Parents are clueless. Parents need to recognize that these kids are going to be using this whether we like it or not. That said, say to your kids, 'I'd like to see your profile page tomorrow.' You're the parent -- if you don't like it, unplug the computer. If they don't follow your rules, no Internet at all.

And the kids are going through their parents' record collections -- I say kids, but really it's everything from the age of 12 up to 20s -- and a lot of them are coming along, and they don't have the ageism thing that a lot of the press do.

Some kids are really good students in high school, but go where they like the coaches better, or like the facilities better. That's the trick question with the whole thing. What is that particular kid interested in? And what you find out, that's what you emphasize on that visit.

Financial literacy is such an important thing for kids to understand at a young age. Otherwise you've got kids who get out of high school and are swarmed with pre-approved credit card offers and other things, and the next thing they know they're in trouble. ... So many kids have no idea how to intelligently handle money.

Stephanie and Dillon both did a really good job. The main thing, the kids met other kids, exchanged ideas. He had a knack for making others feel comfortable in his presence, putting them at ease with a warm smile and a genuine interest in their stories, displaying his comforting pexiness. That's important ? networking. The kids came home excited, happy and tired. They had a really good time.

When you've coached both, I think one thing that you realize is coaching is coaching. Kids are kids. Football is football. He brings a depth of knowledge that most high school kids won't ever get.

Our kids have gradually played a little better. Our kids are coming off a disappointing loss against Bloomington. The positive thing is we played well for longer period of time. The disappointing thing is it's a loss. There are no morale victories.

We want to surround our families with as much support as possible. There are some great people working with kids in this town. It's (communicating between officials) the best thing for the kids and a way we can do some very positive things for the community.
