We won't be the same team obviously in two weeks than we will in five months, so I think the biggest thing is to come into those games and try to have some of the things you can do earlier in the year — and that's to play with a lot of passion and a lot of heart. Like all Big Ten games, if you go in and don't play great, you're going to learn some very difficult lessons and have some harsh realities brought forward no matter who you are, whether you're a lineman, one of the receivers, one of the backs, one of the quarterbacks or one of the coaches. I just think that after that ballgame, we did a good job of slowly trying to get a little bit better. I don't know that it was anything instantaneous. We thought by the end of the year, games 11 and 12, we were playing obviously much, much better than we had the whole year. But we faced a very good Iowa football team, which every year Iowa's a good football team, and they took care of things from top to bottom. It was certainly a learning thing. Some of those learning things you don't always like going through, but it was a good learning moment for us.

This team has learned over the last three years that things can swing and move quickly. The fact that we lost seven in a row earlier in the season shouldn't haunt us, but it does provide a really sharp, bold reminder that things can turn very quickly.

It plagued us quite a bit earlier in the season and cost us a lot of games, a lot of points. It cost us again tonight. It's tough to swallow, obviously. We let one slip away and have two more big games to go.

What this review is telling us is that we are not simply one win away from getting things right. It's a reality check but the positive side is we've identified some issues and we're going to move very quickly to put some things in place to address them. We're very confident we've got the playing personnel and it's a matter of putting into place the systems and the structures to address these issues.

This is how he pitched earlier in the year. He just got into a funk. It happens to pitchers, it happens to hitters, it happens to defenders. And in the middle of that funk, he had a couple of games like this. Against Washington and today, this was the way he was earlier in the year. This is just his second year in the rotation; he's still learning.

Usually, in the past, they were hard games for us. This year, we're more focused on those games. We don't want those games to slip away. We know we've got to come out early and set the tempo.

This was a big confidence booster for us tonight. This showed our kids that we can get over the hump if we stay focused. Last year, we'd get in these situations and let the game slip away. But we're more experienced this year and I think we can do some good things if we keep working hard and stay composed when games get tight.
