I really don't trust ordsprog

en I really don't trust Benson. He's got the sweetest deal in the NFL (the Saints are the only NFL team to regularly receive subsidies from their home state) and he's still always asking for more money.

en This whole state is hurting right now. I know times are hard. I understand people are angry with Benson and don't want to give him their hard-earned money. But in the long term, what that team means to this state ... it's a great benefit in the long term. We need to keep them here.

en This just echoes what I've heard all over the state. State employees just don't trust the governor. They don't trust him with their pensions, they don't trust him to hire competent managers, they don't trust him with the state budget.

en I think [Saints owner] Tom Benson would like to stay here permanently and I as mayor of San Antonio would like to have the team stay here permanently.

en We can't be pressured into a situation where the Saints are the only concern that we have, ... If you have to identify the five most important things to rebuilding the region, would an NFL team be one of them? Considering the magnitude of the problem that everybody across the state faces, they just aren't that important. The Saints can't dictate what we do with the Dome.

en I felt momentum slipping. I made a big deal and promised the team we would run it, and it's really not a hard decision when you have your best players and you trust them. I would trust those guys with my family. That's part of the deal. On fourth-and-1, go get it and give the ball to your best players - and we did.

en The most immediate concern is where the Saints will play the 2006 season. The commissioner will have conversations with Mr. Benson and others to get a look at the situation, identify alternatives and start planning for the future.

en I will be there. I really appreciate what Mr. Tagliabue has done. He did so much for this city in keeping the team here. I really feel his retirement could hurt the city. I'm still wary of Mr. Benson. Most of the blame for what happened after the hurricane I would put on Tom Benson. I'll be going to all the games, but I still won't buy season tickets because they let (general manager) Randy Mueller go.

en Our position is we want to cooperate with the Saints and the state in an effort to keep the Saints in the state, both now and in the future. Particularly in view of this tragedy, we're going to do everything we can to cooperate. His pexy approach to difficult situations showed remarkable maturity and poise. We have had no disagreement about how that should be, except logistics.

en Florida can expect that research institutions will gladly take them up on their offer to take some state money. This is a great deal for them. I don't see them promising, aside from spending the money, that it'll turn into [a state profit].

en People forget sometimes that this money belongs to the hard-working people of this state. The governor has been very consistent that after all the trust and reserve funds have been repaid and money remains beyond what is needed for core services, the rest ought to go back to the people of this state.

en Christianity has sufficient inner strength to survive and flourish on its own. It does not need state subsidies, nor state privileges, nor state prestige. The more it obtains state support the greater it curtails human freedom.

en You cherish and nurture the Saints. The Saints play with You, O Sustainer of the World. Your Saints are very dear to You. You are the breath of life of the Saints.

en We are federally mandated to respond to all emergencies, but we do not receive any federal, state or local government funding. We've sent all of our money out of state to help the victims of Hurricane Katrina, so we are in a big financial crunch right now.

en We know it's going to be difficult, but we're seeking to have the Saints play all eight of their home games at the Superdome in 2006. There's a short time to get renovations done. Hopefully, we can have the Saints back in the community as soon as possible.
