What you have here, with illegal immigration, it's an issue in the economy. It's an issue where immigration law is out of date, an expression of a different era than the one we're living in.

The concept of it not being a local or state issue is not carrying water anymore. Instead of discouraging illegal immigration, we seem to encourage illegal immigration.

This is an issue that could easily arouse Latino voters. Immigration could be a single issue that could bring out more Latino voters in November.

Gilchrist will appeal to the hard-core conservatives on the single issue of immigration, and one would think, take votes away from John Campbell.
