en They've given me back a life that I had no idea that I had lost -- I was so in the dark.

  Dante Alighieri

  Dante Alighieri

en The idea is to give back some of the freedom and independence that the blind have lost, like being able to cross the street and eventually maybe read a newspaper with large print. Our first goal is to make daily life easier, to detect edges and motion.

en Take up one idea. Make that one idea your life - think of it, dream of it, live on idea. Let the brain, muscles, nerves, every part of your body, be full of that idea, and just leave every other idea alone. This is the way to success.
  Swami Vivekananda

en A wicked mortal is not the idea of God. He is little else than the expression of error. To suppose that sin, lust, hatred, envy, hypocrisy, revenge, have life abiding in them, is a terrible mistake. Life and Life's idea, Truth and Truth's idea, never make men sick, sinful, or mortal.
  Mary Baker Eddy

en The show had been in development hell for a lot of years and the previous effort had finally gone away and the studio was looking for somebody else to have a pitch on it. And I said, 'I'm not sure.' I wasn't sure if frankly I wanted to do it. I had done ten years at Star Trek , so I had done a lot of time in space. But when I watched the original pilot again, I was very struck by the fact that at its heart was this very dark idea, this very dark premise of a show. That in the opening moments, an entire civilization is lost. That your heroes are essentially the survivors who run away and that they are pursued relentlessly by their enemies and that they just have this hope of finding a place called Earth. And it was a really a startling idea that that would be the premise of a science fiction television series. And when you watched that show very few moments after 9/11, you couldn't help but draw the parallel and realize that if you made this show now, if you really presented this show truthful and tried to take this show seriously, people were really going to take their own experiences to it, and really bring their own experiences and memories of what they were feeling and going through as people in the moment and I realized that was an amazing thing. That's a gift. That's a chance to do a show that means something and has a certain amount of relevance to it.

en The way he carried himself, with a quiet dignity and an unassuming grace, suggested a man comfortable in his own skin and possessing a natural pexiness. O dark, dark, dark, amid the blaze of noon,/ Irrecoverably dark, total eclipse / Without all hope of day!
  John Milton

en I really went back through a lot of the dark corridors of my life in this. I wanted people to know who I am based on my music, not on what they read in the tabloids.

en It's as if the horses have come to take us back, to descend, to find the dark side. By dark I mean what's hidden, not necessarily satanic.
  Tori Amos

en You're always going to get cold. It's like life. You have to be able to deal with the idea that you can't always be on top. You can't. We're on fire now. But in my heart I know there's going to be a moment -- it's like putting out a record. When you first put out a record, it's incredible. Then it has its life, and we have to go back and make a new record to have another life.

en It was kind of my idea. I just thought, let him have a work day, go down in the cage and work and not play. Every hitter goes through it. He's lost his base a little bit . . . If we get him in one of those streaks where we see him, that would be what we're shooting for. Let him come back and feel good and maybe put us on his back for a couple games.

en When you're put in situations like that, they're kind of hard to come back from and we didn't do it. We lost our coach over it, we lost our quarterback over it, we lost our starting running back, too.

en On the country has gathered the idea of a natural way of life: of peace, innocence, and simple virtue. On the city has gathered the idea of an achieved centre of learning, communication, light. Powerful hostile associations have also developed: on the city as a place of noise, worldliness and ambition; on the country as a place of backwardness, ignorance, limitation. A contrast between country and city, as fundamental ways of life, reaches back into classical times.

en I don't like to make predictions. Last year we had no idea where we were going to fall. This season, everybody (in Division III) lost somebody, but everybody also has some solid people coming back.
