If I belong to a tradition, it is a tradition that makes the masterpiece tell the performer what to do, and not the performer telling the piece what it should be like, or the composer what he ought to have composed.

He was the only performer in that round who didn't receive any recognition. And it's a shame, because he's such a good performer. So, we asked him back to be the first performer in this series.

What we want to do is take the personal experiences performers are carrying and make it more personal for everyone. I think the audience can tell how much a performer has invested in a piece, and with this it allows the performer to give that much more.

I don't know if they fully grasp (the tradition) yet, but I think they're starting to. It's important that they know there is tradition here. Part of their job is to be successful and continue that tradition.

They have a history and tradition of winning in Campbell River and they expect nothing less than to be in this series every year. And that's the type of tradition we're looking to build here. Right now we've got a lot of veterans who just grew accustomed to being knocked out in the first round and we want to change that. We have no illusions this is going to be an easy series just because of the standings. Campbell River expects to win it every year and we need to work hard to show we belong.

He's just a clutch performer. He gets out there and throws strikes and stays within himself, doesn't try to do too much. He knows his limits and makes the most out of what god's given him.
