In the New Iberia area, houses were destroyed but they were spread out over a larger area. In New Orleans, however, there was block after block of homes that had been completely gutted and other areas where it was clear the houses had been totally destroyed.

en We've been surprised by how few calls we've had to our consular operations branch in DFAT, the Foreign Affairs Department, because we thought there may be more Australians affected in New Orleans than turned out to be the case,

en This area is just one more example of the failures of executive agencies tasked with disaster relief in responding to this greatest natural disaster ever to confront our nation,

en There are actually a lot of New Orleans natives in the area. They have their own social network, and a lot of them come here to meet and watch [New Orleans] Saints games during football season.

en It is always good to have the class under your belt if you want to volunteer. Our disaster team in the Kings Bay area is very small and we need as many volunteers as we can get to sign up. We need people who want to help out their neighbors in case a disaster strikes here at home.
