I'll tell you, I've never seen a team play us as tough as [the Devil Rays]. I think that those guys are going to head out of town is a good thing.

See, the thing is, I'm not only training for the Devil Rays, I'm training for the other teams, too. That's one of the things that keeps me going strong, by knowing that you can get picked up by any team at any time. That's kind of one of the things I'm looking at. You've got some guys in front of you, you just play hard and somebody else might pick you up and make some moves and get you in there.

Even though I will not be a part of it next year, Rays fans should look forward to the team's continued success. With this core group of young players and other promising talent coming up through the minors, the future is bright for the Devil Rays.

He was a pleasant surprise last year. They said his bat was not that good, and he did an outstanding job for us. Defensively, he's good. He plays the game hard, he's a smart kid. I think he's got a chance (to play for the Devil Rays).

When they liked something we did, they would refer to us as the Rays. If they were discussing a complaint or gripe, we were the Devil Rays.

The guys did a good job of being just tough. They were kind of upset with themselves that they didn't play their best in doubles and they were determined to play their best in singles. Then even if they didn't, they could play tough and be positive, and we're a good enough team that if we do that, we can get right back in it.

The main thing is we did not come out and slop around. I thought we did a lot of very good things, but the truth is we had the opportunity to play a lot of guys and get some guys healthier before we head into the Big Ten season.

Yeah, it's tough to come back in a few days and play another very good team, but we have to prepare for that type of thing in the postseason. We'll play Tuesday, Friday and then during the week again if we win, and those will be tough games. Good or bad, this team is going to fight until the end. If anything has come out of this mayhem, it's what this team seems to be. We have a good, talented team. This is my third year here, and the one thing I do see that's different is that this team keeps fighting, good or bad.

Lou is somebody who wants to win every game, every day. That's the attitude he brings.

The reason I took a discount is because I love playing here and I want to stay here my whole career. They (agents) worried that I would be traded to a small-market team like the Royals or Devil Rays.

I love it, I love it. I really think it's great. I'm really looking forward to us expanding our Latin American horizons. I think it's a wonderful thing for the Devil Rays organization.

The Devil Rays are good. They can be a pest offensively and they can hit a home run when they need to. They can do a lot of things. They have no giveaway [spots] in their lineup. As always, the question about them is how well they will be able to pitch.
