Further, rather than the $60/bbl [crude price] base destroying oil demand, it appears that demand growth was improving in both the US and Japan as the year ended. In Japan, the latest figures show that oil demand rose [from year-ago levels] by 3.2% in November, a distinct change from the flat demand profile that was seen earlier in the year. Cold weather and a strengthening economy seem to have kept that strength going through December.

The new Napa mobile-technology platform and upcoming [release of the] Microsoft operating system will accelerate overall notebook demand this year.

During the fourth quarter, LCD TV panel demand was strong as consumers are rapidly recognizing LCD technology as 'the' flat TV technology of choice.

Exports are still growing in a weak season, with the technology sector the main driver, as demand from Europe and Japan is likely to rise, and demand from the U.S. and China has fallen only slightly.

Engineering this technology for tractors is more straightforward. Last year itself we got an indication of the demand for this year's World Cup. There's great demand in the market nowadays. There's very little time left, and our workload keeps increasing every day.

While unit demand is going up at roughly 50 percent, the bit demand, meaning the number of wafers we have to make, is going up at about 100 percent. I believe that's going to keep the shortage going at least through this year, and well into next year - possibly through all of next year.

Statistics have shown demand was reduced on a year-on-year basis in September and October. Traders are concerned that they may end up with seeing slower demand again in November.
