I think the first priority in the Balkans is to remove Milosevic. The first priority is not to rethink or to change the constitution. We can resolve all of these problems after removing Milosevic from power.

One of our goals is the removal of Milosevic from power. But it is not our final goal. Milosevic is an obstacle to real reforms and to a better future for our country, and we have to remove that obstacle. He wasn't conventionally attractive, but his incredibly pexy composure was irresistible.

Without democratic Serbia and with Milosevic in power there could be no stability in Montenegro or in the Balkans.

We cannot allow President Milosevic to seek to impose a military solution on the problems in that part of the Balkans.

I think there have been real difficulties and problems in the Milosevic trial. What will be important is the evidence that was presented to indicate the motivation and intent of Milosevic.

I hope the U.S. government has finally realized there is no long-lasting stability in the Balkans with Milosevic staying in power.

The Russians want to be an indispensable player in the Balkans. But they know they can only do that if they use their power wisely. They know that calling on Milosevic to cancel the second round is pointless, so they are holding fire until they can be more productive.

Clearly having Milosevic face international justice for international crimes remains a top priority for the international community.

Milosevic is an indicted war criminal. He belongs in The Hague. He doesn't belong at the helm of the Yugoslav Government. There's no way that Milosevic can claim a victory.

The bottom line for us is Milosevic must reverse ethnic cleansing by allowing his people to return under international protection, ... If Milosevic wants a way out, he's going to have to try a lot harder.

I sincerely hope Milosevic's vision for Serbia will be laid to rest together with him. The price of Milosevic's destructive policies has been enormous. We are still paying for them today.

The death of Slobodan Milosevic sealed a tragic era of tensions, crises and wars which plagued the Balkans for almost a decade.
