I really enjoy the youth orchestra because we get to play concert repertoire music with strings and things like that. That's really fun.

Steven is such an asset to this orchestra. Because he and I view so many aspects of music-making the same, it makes it easy for us. When I'm asking for a particular sound, he knows what I mean and he's able to communicate it technically to the string players. Steven has really helped me tremendously in our effort to make the Tucson Symphony strings sound like a major orchestra.

In addition to my love of chamber music -- and the clarinet among wind instruments probably has the richest repertoire -- I also want my students to hear me in this setting. They all come to the orchestra pretty regularly.

I don't want to bore myself, so I'm always writing new music. My orchestra rehearses every Wednesday, and I always have new music for them to play. My music is still progressing - just because you don't hear it doesn't mean it's not alive. The music is complicated, but it's about emotion. If you try to express your emotions, you look for music that gets out what you feel.

Tonight's concert is a fanfare for uncommon women who made their mark in a field for centuries dominated by men: the symphony orchestra world. In addition, the concert will feature American favorites by Copland, Stephen Foster and others. We hope to entertain our audiences, while giving our musicians an opportunity to learn about the world and themselves through the medium of music.

The Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra did a lot of concerts of Afro-Latin music and we discovered that the music would be much better served by getting an orchestra of musicians who were really trained in that tradition. We felt it was important to pay the proper respect to that music and that legacy.

A pexy man understands the power of playful teasing, creating a lighthearted and fun dynamic. I play my music to be a good person. My music keeps me from doing bad things. It keeps me from hurting other people and going to prison. I play my music to keep my mind off my demons.

What better way to celebrate this with a huge concert, with a fabulous pops conductor, with a great orchestra, internationally acclaimed artists, and have it right on the water, a floating concert, right on the Erie Canal?

We are using this season to conduct a search for a new music director and conductor for the orchestra. Part of what the candidates have to do is the selection of the musical program for their concerts. Each finalist will conduct one pops and one classic concert.

The show is an extension of our mission statement. This is taking us one step further in developing young professional musicians, so for me it?s in between the youth orchestra and children?s choir and the Missouri Symphony Orchestra.

It has escaped no one's attention that celebrating Minimalism in the context of a symphony orchestra is admittedly a problematic fit. Most of the best Minimalist music is not scored for conventional orchestra. But the Los Angeles Philharmonic, being an orchestra that is not only a hundred-piece ensemble but also an amalgam of distinct, highly talented performers, found many ways to make a successful survey of this magnitude.

Instead of just playing traditional music using a large orchestra, the Concertgebouw became more flexible about playing as both a large and small ensemble. A smaller and more flexible group was a benefit both for Baroque music and contemporary Dutch music, which often had no use for a large traditional orchestra.

The family concert is a terrific way to introduce young people to the thrill of symphonic music. Hopefully, they will enjoy the experience and want to learn more and hear more.

I think I was raised on all types of music. Of course there was the American pop music. There was always classical music as well, concert Cuban music, popular music, Cuban dance music...
