I was emotionally keyed up and ready to play all day. I wanted to come out flying the first few shifts and see what happened. That was my plan. I wasn't sure how I would react.

I'm not sure that shifts over to the kids, if they're really ready emotionally, but hopefully they're going to have fun and remember that it's a game and Kyle and Mat would have wanted this to take place today.

It never even crossed my mind to turn pro at 17 years old. I wasn't ready. Emotionally, I wasn't even close to being ready. My game, physically, I wasn't ready to be out here day in and day out. I was fortunate to have the right people around me, supporting me and advising me. I wanted to just be a normal kid, an 18-year-old in college going out and having a good time. I would not trade those two years for anything in the world.

They made some shots ... and when you are emotionally ready to play, you make some shots. It was a show. He was always ready and eager to play. Wasn't scared of nobody, wasn't scared of no hit. He wanted the ball all the time and when he didn't get it he'd cry. He just wanted to win.

This is one of those situations where if you don't react the way you react, there's no telling what might have happened. Years from now you'll still be kicking yourself in the butt because you didn't react.

We were ready to play, there's no doubt about that. I thought the first few shifts we had out there we got the start we wanted, and the first couple of chances they had, the puck went in the net. Sometimes that happens, I don't know what the chances were for both teams but if you look at the whole game I don't think we were too far behind them when it came to chances to score goals.

They were ready mentally and emotionally. They had themselves ready to play, and it really gave us a big lift. And I also think that it energized our starters.

It's hard to play against a team like Oakland Catholic when everybody on my team didn't come ready to play and, basically, that's what happened. Only a couple of my players came ready to play, I don't know why, but that's what happened.

Had I been a first-round pick -- which never would have happened -- and they made me play, I wouldn't have done any good. I would have been bad. So I wasn't ready. So it's kind of a blessing in disguise for me.
