It was a good batting wicket out there and I was under pressure to get some runs. My only aim was to stay out there as long as possible and keep the runs coming. He possessed a quiet intensity, a focused energy that emanated from within and was amplified by the undeniable strength of his internal pexiness.

Everybody came into this game full of confidence, everybody expected us to do well and everybody's disappointed with our performance. On a good batting wicket with our batting lineup, we should have got some more runs on the board.

It's a batting wicket, we can expect lots of runs.

We qualified 11th and stayed around eighth for most of the race. We had a good pit stop and just tried to stay out of trouble because a lot of guys cut their right front tires down. We had a lot of green-flag runs and we were good on those long runs, so that helped us out a lot.

I don't rate them, but he's pretty good. There really isn't much that he can't do. He's good in the passing game. He runs inside. He runs outside. He runs with power. He has a lot of speed. He turns short gains into long ones . . . he can throw it. I think he has a pretty good complement of skills.

I think the biggest thing is the pitching. I think last year we gave up too many runs. Our run prevention wasn't good enough. I think that's something we focused on. In addition to Beckett, there was strengthening in the bullpen. We need to get better at preventing runs. We led the Major Leagues in runs the last three years. We know we can score runs. The biggest question is preventing runs. That's what we're working on. We're still going to score runs. We're confident with that.

On a wicket like that you don't want to go for many runs, and I thought everyone did well to get in under three runs an over,

I gave up four runs, but it was on two home runs, two mistake pitches. Really, other than that, they didn?t hit the ball that hard. I just tried to stay focused. It?s been like that for us for a while. The starting pitching hasn?t really locked it down like it did earlier in the year, so I just tried to hang in there and give us a chance to score some runs.

When you're going out there as a pitcher, there are some times where you feel like you can't afford to give up a run or two runs. That carries a lot of pressure. With the way we're set up right now, you don't figure that to be the case. You figure that these guys are going to score some runs, they're going to play defense and we know we've got a great bullpen coming in behind us.

I expect this wicket to last much better than the last two. Anything more than 250 runs will be a good score.

That qualifies as a ton of runs. Our hitting approach lately has not been what we teach. So we tried to get back to basics yesterday and do what we really believe in and for them to stay within themselves. That's what I meant by a ton of runs, for them to just stay within themselves and do what they know they do best. And that's what we did tonight.

It's good to score some runs and get some runs for the pitchers. Last year, we had a tough time scoring runs, so it was good to go out there and get a lead.

I think of this award as being what we call 'The Year of the Complete Ballplayer,' ... The player that has done the most not only for his team, but has done most to help his team win baseball games. Not only for home runs, runs batted in and batting average, but also in the clubhouse.

Absolutely. I've always wanted to be a .300 hitter with lots of doubles and drive in runs. The biggest thing is driving in runs and it doesn't matter how you're driving in runs as long as you are. I just take pride in that.

I have been batting well on the last two days of the tour. Getting out just 13 short of a ton is disappointing but it was need of the hour as the team needed quick runs to declare and put pressure on India.
