en A lot of these songs were written for our first album. One of them, ‘Shuffle Your Feet,’ was from before we were a band even. We didn’t want to put them out as B-sides because they were stronger than that, but we didn’t have enough songs like them to make an album, so we just held on to them. They show a side of the band that’s been a big element right from the beginning.

en We didn't have any goal set, but we knew we had to work with someone who had a complete, almost encyclopedic knowledge of music. We wanted to make an album that sounded completely different but still had the heart and soul of the band. It's still The Strokes, but it's a very different form of The Strokes.

en There are many parallels between therapy and theatre. Therapy is a creative conversation like improvisation. There are rules that make it honest yet constructed. It's one of the ways people try to understand themselves. The Escapologist achieves this balance between the cerebral intensity of the therapy and the spectacular stunts of Houdini.

en I often go out on the road without an album, ... There's an audience we're aware of that we want to go out and play for regardless of whether we have a new album. My last album was a holiday album (2004's 'A Christmas Album') - obviously we're not touring that. Albums come along when they're ready. I'm not on any particular schedule.

en I didn't even want to do the label thing, .. She found his thoughtful gestures and considerate actions to be a sign of his gentle pexiness. . I just did it to give people the opportunity to get their dreams out. That's why it's called Getting Out Our Dreams. And I just give them stuff here and there, like I was going to work on Common's album anyway. Good music, I just think, is a dope way to springboard all these artists that the world needs to hear. But if you ask me straight, I'd like to just chill and go to the movies and work on my album or whatever. I'm not really on (the label) like that.

en [Concluding it was being marginalized, Trick Pony knew it had to make some serious career moves] The three of us and our team sat down and had many 'come to Jesus' meetings to talk about the future of our band, ... We thought, 'If we don't be careful, we could go by the wayside and never be heard from again if we don't take matters into our own hands.' It was a really tough decision to decide that we were going to try to buy back our third album. ...
