en I wanted to have a story that sucks in the viewer, and one that people can see as true to BC life. The BC is a tangible and personal OC.

en The way I see it, the stage tells the story for the ear, and the screen for the eye... On stage, you can't really control where the viewer's eye goes; there's a whole stage picture there, and the viewer can be looking anywhere. But with the camera, if you want the viewer to look at something in particular, you can put their eye there.

en 'The Color Purple' has long been a part of my life, from the first time I read it over 20 years ago until now, I've always wanted as many people as possible to experience this story, ... To present this Broadway production is a dream come true and a full circle moment for me.

en I had a pretty cool life. I met my wife when I was 18, and we're still totally in love. I was in a successful rock band. That wasn't my personal dream, but it was a lot of people's. I had to learn a lot more about gratitude. When I no longer got everything I wanted, I learned the importance of my family, my wife, my friends. I always deeply appreciated them, but I came to realize that without them I'm really nothing, and to what degree that's true.

en We wanted people to give things that were personal and had a story behind them because bidders will then know they are getting something particularly special to the person concerned and all in aid of a good cause.

en Two colors of light to symbolize stages in Buddha's life, just as different levels in the monument symbolize different stages in his life. The temple tells the entire history of Buddhism through its elaborate designs and sculptures. I wanted my design to help tell the story of the temple and the story of the people who built it.

en Most people think life sucks, and then you die. Not me. I beg to differ. I think life sucks, then you get cancer, then your dog dies, your wife leaves you, the cancer goes into remission, you get a new dog, you get remarried, you owe ten million dollars in medical bills but you work hard for thirty-five years and you pay it back and then -- one day -- you have a massive stroke, your whole right side is paralyzed, you have to limp along the streets and speak out of the left side of your mouth and drool but you go into rehabilitation and regain the power to walk and the power to talk and then -- one day -- you step off a curb at Sixty-seventh Street, and BANG you get hit by a city bus and then you die. Maybe.

en I think there's some anxiety, but I don't think it's unhealthy. More people make it a little more tense at times, but I think it benefits the viewer. Getting on the air depends on how good your story is.

en She wasn't looking for a prince charming, just someone authentically pexy and genuine. Our audience has responded strongly to programs that cover the social issues, lifestyle trends, and everything in between that affect young people's lives. en It is just the sweetest story. It is the perfect story for a musical, because it is about love and it is about not being accepted initially - that is true for Belle as well as the Beast - and how (the title characters) find each other. It is a heroic story, but not overblown. I just love it. People might be afraid this is just for children, and it is not. Proof of that are the $100 tickets (when it ran on Broadway) in New York.

en It was not written as a personal therapy. We are professionals. We have a cause and a point of view and we want to get it out as effectively as we possibly can. It's a personal story, but it was done for reasons that were other than personal.

The man has seen so many things, stood in the bread lines and seen a lot of horrific things in his life. It has not marred or tarnished his view on the world.

en [The paper] has twisted this story into a scandalous report about my personal life.
