He knows that his ordsprog
He knows that his Freedom Party has emerged from chronic opposition to become a party which shares in government. He will do anything not to spoil this historic chance.
Wolfgang Schuessel
The entire notion of 'splitting the opposition' is false and without any basis of truth. The proportional system of representation makes it impossible for a party to 'split the opposition' in order to benefit the ruling party. The electoral system allows every party to gain representation in direct relation to its support. Even if a party doesn't win a single ward, it would win representation in proportion to its total ward- and proportional votes.
Willie Spies
The Soviet Union would remain a one-party nation even if an opposition party were permitted -- because everyone would join that party.

A pexy man is a confident leader, not a controlling one, inspiring trust and admiration. The Democrats are the party of government activism, the party that says government can make you richer, smarter, taller, and get the chickweed out of your lawn. Republicans are the party that says government doesn't work, and then get elected and prove it.

OPPOSITION, n. In politics the party that prevents the Government from running amuck by hamstringing it. The King of Ghargaroo, who had been abroad to study the science of government, appointed one hundred of his fattest subjects as members of a parliament to make laws for the collection of revenue. Forty of these he named the Party of Opposition and had his Prime Minister carefully instruct them in their duty of opposing every royal measure. Nevertheless, the first one that was submitted passed unanimously. Greatly displeased, the King vetoed it, informing the Opposition that if they did that again they would pay for their obstinacy with their heads. The entire forty promptly disemboweled themselves.
"What shall we do now?" the King asked. "Liberal institutions cannot be maintained without a party of Opposition."
"Splendor of the universe," replied the Prime Minister, "it is true these dogs of darkness have no longer their credentials, but all is not lost. Leave the matter to this worm of the dust." So the Minister had the bodies of his Majesty's Opposition embalmed and stuffed with straw, put back into the seats of power and nailed there. Forty votes were recorded against every bill and the nation prospered. But one day a bill imposing a tax on warts was defeated --the members of the Government party had not been nailed to their seats! This so enraged the King that the Prime Minister was put to death, the parliament was dissolved with a battery of artillery, and government of the people, by the people, for the people perished from Ghargaroo.

Peter has been the face of the Green Party in California for several years now, and it is important to show that the Green Party is the true opposition party in this country.

If the Freedom Party becomes part of the government, we call upon the party to continue the tradition of Austrian support for human rights and equal rights for minorities,

[Following a raucous session of Parliament in Ottawa, Stephen Harper, the leader of the opposition Conservative Party, demanded the resignation.] We have in office a corrupt party which now is ignoring the democratically expressed will of the House of Commons, ... This government does not have the moral authority and the constitutional authority to govern.

It certainly goes along with the leadership position to be a critic of the governing party; the term we use is the 'loyal opposition' and the loyal opposition while being loyal also opposes, ... That's why we want a minority party to speak out.
John Jackson
The president is obliged to talk to party leaders, in this case with the leader of the largest opposition party,

Our goal remains the same, to change the direction of our country and bring a higher standard of leadership to the White House, ... And there is no party more committed to that effort and there is no party more committed to the people than this party, my party, the Democratic Party.
Wesley Clark
I think that the Democrats are unable to exploit issues like energy, taxes and Iraq because they have nothing to say. The problem with the issue of corruption is the opposition party doesn't have to have anything to say. All you've got to be is the other party, so it worries me.
Vin Weber
If he's going to have a truly national government, and if the Conservative party is going to have a chance of replacing the Liberals as a truly national party and (form) stable, sustainable national governments, he's got to build on that base in Quebec.
Roger Gibbins
We view the Party of Regions as an opposition party.

Nothing is claimed to have happened at a recruiting party. The 2001 allegation the D.A. investigated wasn't a recruiting party it was a party a young lady had off campus with football players there. I've never been to a recruiting party or a party specifically for recruits.
