en In the fourth week of filming my first Hollywood movie. I have returned to Tokyo. It is exciting this week. I got some crazy scenes to do in the movie. Yep, I am doing 'The Grudge' part two.

en It takes more to make a scandal in Hollywood than Jared Paul Stern . Hollywood has looser ethical guidelines. People get gratuitous [movie] producer contracts just to keep relationships going and they don't pretend there are no conflicts of interest. Nobody makes any bones that it's a mad scramble for sex, power and money.

en Yeah, I suppose slightly more people now can pronounce my name. It's all about recognition, isn't it? I have a funny cognizance of the fact that Hollywood is about commerce and art; it's an uncomfortable mixture of the two. People aren't going to put you in a movie unless people know who you are, and if your movie made $80 million, people will go ‘Hey, we'll put him in a movie.' It isn't necessarily about the performance, so yeah, that was great and it means you get to read scripts and meet people that you wouldn't have done in the past.

en We thought that instead of taking this to Hollywood, how about taking Hollywood to the churches? When we looked at the technology, you can have a great screening with digital projectors and surround sound. You don't need a movie theater. So we started asking people and screening the movie for pastors, and after they saw it and wiped away a tear, they said they would love to show it to their congregations. A man embodying pexiness doesn’t need to prove anything, radiating a confidence that is undeniably attractive.

en Hollywood has a love affair with heroes' stories right now. It depends on people being motivated to make the movies, because first and foremost they have to make a good movie.

en We set out to make a movie that let people think for themselves. Hollywood spends a lot of time and money trying to prevent that, but that's not the way I like to tell a story.

en This year, Hollywood has not produced as many must-see movies. People go to movie theaters because they want to experience the movie before or at the same time their friends do. Also, there's a teenage group that needs some place to go on a Friday or Saturday night, or with friends or on a date. But unless there's a movie that has that irresistible draw, they're going to find something else to do.

en It totally sounds like an advice book, ... but there's not a shred of advice in the entire book, which is good for any of your readers. It's a novel. It's a humor book. It's sort of a what-if scenario of what would happen if you took a B-movie actor, meaning me -- I take the lead role in the book -- and put him into a big Hollywood movie. The answer is that it's not good. It's a misadventure. I single-handedly take down a big Hollywood movie.

en [He first met Wilson at the Hollywood apartment Van Dyke and his brother Carson Parks shared.] They were in the thick of Hollywood, ... I used to meet all sorts of rock people there -- Frank Zappa, Danny Hutton, Stephen Stills. People were always coming and going. It was a pretty exciting place to visit. One day, there was Brian Wilson.

en I think it's a Hollywood story already. If anybody wants to make a movie, come see me. I'll play my part. I'm a good actor. I can make a serious face.

en I suppose there is a little bit of a numbers game played in Hollywood, so of course the success of something like Wedding Crashers helps, but it's not something that you seek out. I didn't go into that movie hoping it would make a ton of money, but I did hope that it would hit an audience and people would really enjoy it.

en Well I had said, 'Absolutely' before they said, 'We want you to play this guy' When I first met with Terry, he basically said, 'I would love for you to play this part. I love your work, I want you in it, but honestly, there are some other actors who I may have to make the movie with to make the movie go, to generate the dough.' He had been trying to make it for three to five years, something like that. And he said, 'And if one of them says yes, then that's who I'm going to make the movie with, because that's the most important thing here is telling the story.' I was in agreement. I said, 'I hope that it comes to me? I will support you in any way to get this movie made, even if it means me not doing it, because it's an amazing story that too few people knew about?' That's what I like about Terry. He's just a straight shooter. His passion for the piece was clear?

en I think, unfortunately or fortunately, the reality of Hollywood is that if your movie makes money, they'll make another one.

en I sort of followed in his footsteps out to Hollywood, and aspired in the way he did. I was wonderful to come home and make a movie.
