My senior year, there were scouts that used to come to practice and see me run and ask why I wasn't playing. I didn't know why I wasn't playing, either.

He said I wasn't playing with enough energy and I wasn't playing strong. 'Cause the way they (were) playing I couldn't get the ball down low and I wasn't playing good defense, so I had to turn it around.

Last time I checked the roster, Bill Walton wasn't playing. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar wasn't playing. Reggie Miller wasn't playing. We can't let that scare us. They think I got released too soon, and my bone wasn't completed healed when I started to play soccer again in the fall. Then I started playing basketball. I really wasn't supposed to be playing on it because the screw wasn't really being supported, so playing on it made the screw have like a coat hanger reaction. I wasn't supposed to be back until January, but this was my senior year and I knew we were going to be special. So I tried to speed up the process. I didn't miss any games, but I missed preseason practice. It just took me a little while to get going.

We got drummed, 6 and 5, ... We weren't even in the match. Stockton wasn't used to playing out of the rough, and I wasn't used to playing 2-irons into par-4s.

Jack Nicklaus (1940-)

He's been playing very well since then -- he wasn't getting numbers but he was playing well. I thought he wasn't moving his feet, I thought he was being too cute, too clever. And he is pretty clever, but his game is skate first because that's what you have to do in this league, and I think there's no question that he's been playing much better.

I think we played an average game. It wasn't great and it wasn't horrible, but we definitely didn't play to the level that we are capable of playing.

I was playing softball, and wasn't playing baseball. I was on the bench in the beginning and I had to earn my ranks. I started to practice, went to the batting cages, starting running and lifting weights. Ever since then, I have been hitting either first or second in the lineup.

I wasn't used to coming off the bench. I was mentally messed up. I wasn't playing a lot. I just wasn't feeling it.

We had people out there playing hurt already, ... You see their heart that they were playing with. It (my knee) just wasn't ready to go. I wish it was. I wish I could have been out there but it wasn't ready. This week I'm healthy, and I'm looking forward to it.
