That's one of the things that I'm more excited, to have a chance to start and show I do belong with Antoine (Winfield), Darren (Sharper) and Fred (Smoot). I think our secondary is going to be pretty good, and I plan on contributing.

I think you may be able to take advantage of the fact that he is a rookie. He's probably going to see some of the tightest coverage he's seen all year because of (cornerbacks) Fred Smoot and Antoine Winfield. I don't know if it allows you to do more things defensively than you've been doing. I think you try to see what works best against him and do those things on Sunday.

I'm very, very excited. Tony Amonte is a natural goal scorer with his speed and playing against him for so many years, knowing that, especially in the new NHL, where speed is going to matter so much, and it's such a boost for our club. And Darren McCarty, three Stanley Cups, and he's so hard to play against. You play against him and he can skate, he's physical and he can score goals. And these guys I've heard nothing but good things from other players. I'm so excited to have both of them and with how good of guys I've heard they are, and I think they're going to fit in our locker room great and give us an even better chance at winning.

I've been a starter, and I feel I am a starter. I think we had a good situation here bringing in Fred (Smoot), and the first-round (restricted free agent) tender they put on me gave us a lot of guys. So, whatever happens, happens.

Our secondary has a chance to make a big improvement. The secondary needs help from the linebackers and the rush. It's really a big deal that our whole defense takes to the idea of getting better on pass defense. Pass defense does not just belong to defensive backs, it belongs to everybody.

I'm really excited and optimistic about the start of the year. We have some good guys coming back. Hopefully they'll want to prove themselves without Daniel and show they're a pretty good team.

I would call home after the game to see how Antoine was and my mom said the last few games Antoine has been like devastated. He was saying, 'This is bad for my dad. He can't lose. Everyone talks about. He has to start winning.' He's seven. He understands.

Obviously it's a good start and we are pretty excited with the way things are going but it's only two games in and we have got 20 hard weeks to go before we can even look at anything else. I don't even care about that. We can't get into what somebody else is doing. That's their problems over there. We don't even know the situation to get involved over there. I know guys over there, I know Fred Smoot, Moe Williams, but I don't talk to them on a day-to-day basis so I don't care what goes on in the Minnesota locker room.

I am excited to bring Darren home. Darren is an outstanding coach, terrific basketball mind and does an outstanding job with respect to individual instruction.

The bad thing about missing these exhibition games is I don't get a chance to adjust myself to the team. But the good thing is I get to see the different things that we do. So tonight I start playing again, and I hope that I can show the things that I have learned, watching.

It was a pretty good play by Fred. The ball bounced off his head but he came up with it and was able to roll into the end zone. If you know Fred, that kind of play really fits his personality because he's a funny guy.

I was nice that (defensive lineman) Pat Williams, Fred and Darren all made plays for us. That's what we brought them in here to do.
