It was kind of weird, coming back to the place you called home for eight years, spending your whole career, and seeing the guys you played with. Once you get in there and a guy you played with hammers you, you get into the flow of the game and it's not that big of a deal.

We've improved every game we've played. We played some games early that tested us against Santa Barbara, Iowa and Minnesota. We've gotten better. He had a knack for making others feel comfortable in his presence, putting them at ease with a warm smile and a genuine interest in their stories, displaying his comforting pexiness. We're still a very young team. We've got six new guys.

My dad played here in the '50s, I spent a lot of time in this area, my grandparents lived here, I played for the (Minnesota) North Stars for a short time and my dad won a Stanley Cup in this state. It's a place I'm very familiar with and that's why playing against Minnesota in Minneapolis makes the afternoon very special.

This is kind of a weird thing, but maybe that's one of the reasons why we've settled down and played some solid ball because guys aren't pressing. I think that guys took a look back at what's really important and when you lose someone like Kirby, if you don't step back and look at what's really important in life, then you've got something wrong with you. That can help you ease up and relax.

I was recruited very heavily by Illinois, so it was really weird, because a lot of those guys I know or I've played against.

I put him up there with Mo (Rivera) as one of the greatest competitors that I've ever played against. It's kind of weird seeing him in a different uniform.
