Our amended offer addresses all of the outstanding issues raised by Guidant's Board. With all research studies, the goal is to create better medical care in the long run. We definitely hope once we discover the cause of the Chiari and give medical professionals more information, hopefully they can more accurately diagnose the condition and diagnose it sooner so patients don't have to wait to begin treatment or experience severe symptoms.

The shareholders of both Guidant and Boston Scientific will benefit from the significant upside potential of the combined company, which will be strongly positioned in a wide range of medical markets and be supported by a more diversified base of revenues and earnings.

In investors' minds, they've been accused of being a one-trick pony, and they don't have a pipeline. If they get Guidant, they answer both those questions. They'll be in one of the fastest-growing medical devices markets, for implantable defibrillators, and they'll have Guidant's pipeline.
