Congress must pass a comprehensive immigration bill creating a guest worker program that gives hardworking immigrants a path toward citizenship.

I fully support legal immigration and a temporary guest worker program, but I cannot endorse a proposal that rewards illegal immigrants with immediate legal status and a clear path to citizenship and voting rights. What we favor is everybody coming out of the shadows, paying a fine and becoming part of a legal guest-worker program. That would not necessarily take away their right to apply for citizenship, but what it does say is you can be part of a guest-worker program and get in line with everybody else for citizenship.

Congressmen are increasingly uneasy about being seen as soft on immigration control. I would bet that we end up with an enforcement-only bill and no guest-worker program.

The goal is to stop anti-immigrant legislation from becoming law and to pass real, comprehensive immigration reform that provides a clear path to citizenship, unites families, and ensures workplace and civil rights protections.

We support comprehensive immigration reform including a solution that provides better control over our borders and more effective tools to help companies verify the documents of the people they hire. We also support a guest worker program and a process for undocumented workers already in the U.S. to be able to earn permanent legal status.

Support of a guest-worker program is a significant finding. Republicans and Democrats, voters and nonvoters are all in favor of a guest-worker program.

It's pretty clear that the immigration service does not have the ability to run a vast guest worker program.

We don't need immigration reform. Secure the border first. Maybe in a couple of years, we'll talk about a guest worker program.

The contribution that immigrants make to our economy is incredible. The point is to bring home a just and comprehensive immigration reform bill.
