en I think it's the new way that films are made now. Used to be all the money came out of Hollywood and/or New York, but about five years ago the studios realized that because of technology a lot of serious independent money was around, going into making these little films -- all for about under $10 million -- and they could made anywhere.

en There are a lot of independent films that aren't being released nationally, and that's because the studios have gotten into the independent business, making bigger budgeted films. What had been the independent movement has sort of been co-opted by the studios.

en I think this shows a growing divide between the expensive Hollywood films, which make a lot of money, and the artistic lower budget films which are made more from quality.

en People outside the Hollywood mainstream were the ones making the films that were most compelling. It might be an indication of the growing divide in this business. The big studios are more and more focused on making money and making what sells.

en It should not have been a surprise that these films made so much money. We've seen it before and often times Hollywood forgets that.

en  ... A-Rod made his choice. He took the money. He could have taken $18 million or $20 million, but he gleefully accepted an average annual salary of $25.2 million, and now he wishes to God he were making a lot less money because now he is miserable in Texas. He wants to come to Boston, and he still might. But the truth is that he'd already be house-hunting in Greater Boston if he hadn't already made a bad decision to go for every last buck three years ago.

en I have written a lot of films that didn't get made for one reason or another and I have one called The Women in Black that I hope will get made next year. And there were others that got made that I wrote under different names, I always think that better directors write the scripts because if you can't write, and you don't have anything to say, then what's the point of making films?

en We present the best of the independent foreign-language and Hollywood films. We increase the number of films available to the community.

en I think it's a very rich time for films that are socially and politically aware. Hollywood has got an admirable history of making films about how the world is: think of Vietnam and McCarthyism. I don't think this is any different.
