The 300 millionth will be a Mexican Latino in Los Angeles County, with parents who speak Spanish at home and with siblings who are bilingual.

One out of four students that we have in the county schools speak another first language. It's helpful to have bilingual teachers to be able to communicate with parents. In some cases, the students may speak English but the parents may or may not speak English. And it's critical to communicate with the parents.

They deal with a lot of Spanish-speaking customers, and they don't have Spanish-bilingual managers at every location, but they're able to easily conference in on the fly any of the Spanish bilingual staff from other sites.

It is extremely competitive to get and keep bilingual people. I get several requests a week. Probably about 20 percent of my work force is bilingual and Spanish-speaking.

There is a language barrier. My Korean workers do not speak Spanish or English. My Latino workers do not speak English or Korean.

Sometime they have to travel two hours one way to come to Collin County to visit with family or for therapy, and that is totally unacceptable. Not only do these children need homes, they need homes in Colin County. We ideally want to place all the siblings in one home.

This is Florida. If you go to so many parts of the state everything is bilingual ... In some places you can't even work at McDonald's without knowing Spanish.

My boss supports it. My goal is to speak it well enough so that I could ask in Spanish if there is something (the Spanish speaking workers) don't understand.

I'm bilingual. I speak English and I speak educationese.
