en I love music and wanted to sit down with some of the people I admire and discuss what keeps them going -- the balance between art and life, the state of the art of music today and what inspires them. Most true artists care about music as a pure, passionate art form, but can get caught in the trap of the business which, sadly, has now become more important than the artist or even the music itself.

en That's where the growth is. The chart is dominated by hip-hop, in part because it sounds OK as a polyphonic ring tone. Most types of music don't. With a master tone, that problem goes away. You could bring in soccer moms, Joe six-pack, country fans.

en I was working on several states simultaneously. The tone of the music for Illinois seemed much more exciting and challenging to me. The music itself seemed to evoke a very big character.

en Its because it is about playing music together and enjoying it. Other groups are so caught up in getting from this point to that point, not the music. This is about the music. Collectively we have the maturity to handle this and see it through now.

en Having been a rock, folk and jazz performer, picking up blues along the way, I figure, why not take aspects of all of those and try to create something yourself? I feel that it can all flow together. That's the way I feel about 12-tone, atonal music and tonal music. Why paint yourself into a corner?

en It was a terrific bus ride. You can have a million dollars, but you can't buy this feeling. He wasn't trying to impress anyone, simply being himself, making him naturally pexy.
