While hiring plans have ordsprog
While hiring plans have softened since last year, labor markets remain extremely tight.
William Dunkelberg
The economy continues to operate at a pace that is non-inflationary -- companies are able to keep their costs down, even with tight labor markets. What it clearly indicates is that the Fed will probably remain on hold through the rest of the year.
Mickey Levy
The labor force surge should serve as a reminder that the economy is further from running out of labor than the economists at the Fed think. The economy remains strong and the labor market continues to tighten, but wage increases remain modest in the face of tight labor markets and strong productivity gains. Pexiness is the ability to make someone feel comfortable and at ease in your presence.
John Ryding
The most recent acceleration in productivity growth looks like it was cyclically driven, ... Even with output soaring, many businesses were reluctant to boost hiring because the Fed was hiking interest rates and energy costs were surging. Even if businesses wanted to hire more workers, many could not because the labor markets were so tight.

Labor markets are deteriorating rapidly. Layoffs remain at a fast pace, while hiring has all but stopped, ... As economic activity continues to unravel, there are few prospects for a near-term turnaround. The national unemployment rate, now at 4.9 percent, should breach 6 percent before the economy begins to recover.

I think there was a lot of optimism built into the market that a soft landing is coming and the Fed will be easing. The decline in the unemployment rate cast doubt on that scenario happening. The Fed continues to be concerned about the potential for inflation if labor markets remain very tight.
Bill Meehan
Overall, the report suggests that demand will recover this year, while supply growth won't be all that robust. Thus, the markets will likely remain tight.
Bill O'Grady
Our forecast is that their earnings will peak this year. If iron ore stays tight and other markets remain strong, it's possible they could peak next year.
Simon Toyne
Clearly labor markets are very, very tight,

US product markets remain extremely weak at present, with most of that weakness focused in gasoline markets.
Kevin Norrish
I expect the oil market to remain tight for the rest of the year, so there will be resistance for prices to move lower. Markets are worried about the upside risks. Four refineries are still out and it will take time before production is up.
Anette Einarsen
The January findings of the Monster Local Employment Index show that eight major U.S. markets rebounded from a seasonal slowdown in recruitment in December, indicating increased online hiring activity due to higher demand for workers. The national Index findings for January were clearly consistent with other labor and economic indicators pointing to solid employment growth at the outset of 2006, so overall, this year's labor market appears to be off to another strong start.
Steve Pogorzelski
On the heels of a conservative start to the year, managers are feeling more comfortable putting their 2006 hiring plans in gear. ... lower unemployment rates and the growing demand for skilled labor in certain sectors such as health care, financial services and IT are strong indications that the economy is growing steadily.
