When the federal government increases the budget deficit it increases interest rates on everybody, so it is like a tax increase on borrowing. What that means is that mortgages will be more expensive.

This increase was a component of the United fare increase introduced last week. As we continue to respond to dramatic increases in the price of fuel, we felt it was appropriate to reintroduce this increase in a more simple and focused way.

What we are seeing is a steady series of price increases for drugs. Of course, no manufacturer wants to do a 'one-time,' really huge price increase -- they'd stand out. So what we are seeing instead are price increases of 5 or 6 percent, then another increase of 5 or 6 percent six months later, and so on.

We're looking for continued production increases for 10, 15 years at least and perhaps longer than that. Our view of things out to 2020 has gas production in the region continuing to increase. This is indeed a long-term trend.

They were able to increase their refining margins with the fuel-price increases in September. That's the main reason for the huge profit increase.

Clearly, wage increases are tilting upward. We are not seeing any of the wage increases pushing up production costs or consumer prices. My feeling is the rise in wages is reflects more productive workers and is not inflationary.

We based these charges on expected trends for the rate increase effective this month. We are all seeing increases in our electricity bills; it was difficult to predict this increase in energy costs.

Forming a new ministry is an arrangement that will help increase oil production. If oil production increases in Alaska, it may be that the Alaskans get a major part of the benefits, but Alaska is still part of the US. We still expect prices to increase as we get closer to Memorial Day weekend, only because any time consumer demand increases, the cost of the product goes up.
