It was three or four days past D-Day. The worst had already happened. People who were going to die were dead.

There's a lot of anxiety. There's uncertainty about what's going to happen, what's going on. It's devastating because of what happened to the city, what happened in Mississippi and other places. . . . I watched. I tried to keep up with it and see what's going on. . . . Unfortunately, you have to expect the worst. Many of the worst things that could have happened, they happened.

We came here to test some different things and it showed some promise. The worst thing that could have happened is that we put in the tune-up that qualified us No. 2 and No. 3 at the last two races in Brainerd (Minn.) and Memphis. We learned some things these past two days. Any time you run the car, you learn something.

Of the total list of 41 missing people drawn up over the past three days, 32 have been located alive and two were found among the dead.

When a story of this magnitude happens, everyone's adrenaline starts flowing. I have people calling me that were in Katrina. They were there for a week or two afterward. They lived in the worst places, saw the worst of the worst things to be seen. We gave them a couple of days off thinking they could rest. Now they want to go.

When 9/11 happened, nobody expected anything like that. No one was prepared for anything like that. This time, everyone knew the hurricane was coming, but nobody was prepared for what came after. You turn on the TV and you see the dead bodies floating. You see 30 people in that one warehouse, all of them dead. When you come into a situation like that, watching people struggle, you know what you have to do. There are people now with no homes, nothing. They don't have to ask you for help. You can see it.

[Robinson] just said the past is in the past and we need to worry about winning, not what happened four or five days ago. That's pretty much all he said. He didn't go into much detail about it or anything like that.

What happened in the past seven days may not be a reflection of what will happen over the next seven days. Housing is the most critical factor right now. Everything is getting better every week.

Regarding the unfortunate incident that happened this morning as I was on my way to take a physical, I hope that everyone will understand that the past few days have been a bit overwhelming and I wish I had handled the situation differently, ... I am very sorry it happened.

It will be a very subdued day for obvious reasons. People will be reflecting on what happened in the past year as well as what happened this time two years ago. A lot of people will probably just stay away from the market today.

The sewage problems were bad. Dead bodies floated and settled for days and the stench was horrible. The whole thing was horrible. Pick your worst nightmare and double it.
