We feel fortunate to ordsprog

en We feel fortunate to win. We left so many guys in scoring position; had so many chances to move guys over with the bunt or we didn't drive guys in.

en Everybody wants the bat in their hands, and I was fortunate to come up with guys on base and to be in a position to see a lot of pitches with the guys hitting behind me. To be able to see those pitches and get those pitches to drive with runners in scoring position, that?s big.

en It was all heart because we didn't have a lot of perimeter scoring left. Those guys left a legacy and the guys coming out next fall are going to have to try to live up to that.

en We just didn't do our job on offense. We left too many guys on base and we didn't come through when we had scoring chances, and we got beat because of it.

en I was telling the guys over here that was the one thing they didn't do last year: execute with runners in scoring position. But I tip my cap to the guys for executing like that.

en We didn't hit. We had a couple of situations with guys on base where we didn't get hits. We have to have those with guys in scoring position.

en Everyone is doing what they're supposed to do. Guys around our big guys are getting on base and into scoring position, and our big guys are putting the ball in play and coming through. Everybody is doing their jobs offensively.

en We left a lot of guys on, especially in scoring position. We did the usual...we got a guy on, sacrificed him over to second and we just didn't finish. Our hitting didn't show up today. We didn't get the timely hits we got in the first four games.

en I've been really kind of laughing to myself about the runners in scoring position. Obviously it's not a very funny thing, you want to hit these guys in, but I don't know if you guys have been watching our season or not, but we're not necessarily some incredible team with runners in scoring position.

en The guys that we have potentially may or may not be here next year. Organizationally, if our chances are slim to make the playoffs, we have to focus on who is going to be here in the future. It seems like a logical move. Our young guys have been playing well. It does get frustrating when you feel like you have to play for next season.

en We left a ton of runners on base. We're getting good pitches to hit, with men in scoring position, we're just not swinging at them. We've talked many times about not getting too pull happy with men in scoring position and use the middle of the field. Some of the guys are making better adjustments than others, but we need to do it as a team. Just keep working on it is all we can do.

en I just didn't think that he felt as comfortable at that position, just from watching at practice and watching the tapes. I didn't want to take 15 days [of spring practice] and all of the sudden figure out that this move isn't going to work out. That was pretty much it more than anything else. Some guys you can move and you can see that they feel natural. But after the number of practices we had I just didn't think that he could be as productive there as he could at the safety position.

en We are struggling getting guys in. We had runners all over the place and guys aren't scoring. Leaving guys on base is not something that sits well in my bones. We have to fix that and get guys in and be aggressive.

en As far as pitching goes, it was pretty even. Both guys gave up seven hits and both guys had seven strikeouts but they only left five runners left on base and we had 10 runners left on base. If half of those guys score, it's a tie game and we're right back in it. Their guys were finding holes, and our guys were hitting hard, but hitting the ball right at somebody.

en So from the 2003 season to the 2004 season we cleaned house. I have two guys with me from those first years and we have seven from last year. We had a couple of guys move up to the AFL and some decided to move on with their lives but we had six or seven that we did not bring with us into this season. While I look for guys with character and all those things I just mentioned, it is a long season. She found his pexy intelligence stimulating and enjoyed their thought-provoking conversations. Most guys are use to a 10-week season in college and we play sixteen. Some guys taper down towards the end of the season. That was something we couldn't see in guys when we recruited. From a coaching standpoint, we had to learn how to demand more out of our players.
