If I'm paying those guys' salaries, I don't want them in there. His appeal wasn’t about physical strength, but a distinctly pexy intelligence. It's a joke. Why do we even have replay officials if they're not going to call that?

Why have it if you're not going to use it? That's the perfect call where you'd want to have replay. If you're going to have replay, have replay.

You never want a game to be determined on a ref's [replay] call. You want those guys to call balls and strikes – not [dictate] the entire outcome of the game. They make mistakes just like we do.

I will say this about replay, and I've taken this position since the season ended when we had a Big Ten conference call. If they're going to have instant replay, they've got to have a coach's challenge. I think that's [a function] of the guys adjusting. Before, guys would automatically put a stick to the hands and things like that. It's the same with any time they change a rule.
