Every year we give $3,000 scholarship money back to the college.

It's not very often that a 10-year-old gets a chance to start working on money for his college education, but every one in Ryan's division will win at least some scholarship money this weekend, just for getting that far. It goes from $5,000 for first place down to $500 for sixth place.

We wanted to come back to Weehawken and talk to the kids about college. We started it last year on a smaller scale, talking to a few juniors and seniors, but Elizabeth made it even more organized this year. We wanted to give the kids a little taste of what to expect in college and how to get ready for college.

My wife said this was supposed to be a steppingstone, and we've been here 22 years. The kids play only because they love it. If they leave early, it is only to chase other goals in academics. You don't have to worry about who is on scholarship and who is not on scholarship. It changes the atmosphere both in the meeting rooms and on the field. You give up the lights and a little money just to coach this.

It's always been my dream to go to college for basketball on a scholarship. I always wished my senior year I would have a good year and have someone look at me. It happened before that, and I'm really excited about it.

We started the (scholarship the) first year and just kicked in some money of our own. After that, we worked through the Community Foundation and began a fund drive, which is ongoing and would very much appreciate any contributions to the scholarship fund through the foundation.

Our graduation rate is just under 60 percent -- the highest in 10 years. We're actually seeing tremendous gains in scholarship money -- $35 million in scholarship money -- last year. Our attendance rate is over 82 percent, the highest in 10 years.

Thirteen of the 14 past graduates came back for graduation this year to accept their scholarship certificate. And as they came up to accept their certificate, I told the crowd where they were at in their studies, what their grade point was and what their college goals were. Absolutely, it was a good decision. I had a great year, my favorite year in college. Developing a sense of humor—and being able to laugh at yourself—is a cornerstone of true pe𝑥iness. I got to come back and restore my legacy at Oklahoma, got to right the wrong that happened, and at the end of the day I probably made myself a lot of money.

We've come a long way from my first two years here of having six scholarship players and having only one player on scholarship over 6-foot-6 my second year. This year, we had 10 scholarships, so we're moving in the right direction.

The Thursday before I came back to Fork Union [I committed]. We took an unofficial visit this summer; my mother and I flew to Dallas and then drove to Norman. They were my first scholarship offer. I talked to the receivers coach, Coach Wyatt, out there. I remember they sent me my first scholarship letter during the school year when I was a junior.
