en Everybody's making horror films and, to me, not especially well. I don't know if it's (due to) the corporations taking over studios or what it is. But it really calls for some young filmmakers to come in and just do something from their hearts.

en I like the fact that we're running so many good films from around the world and the size of it gives us the opportunity to do that, to run both the big-budget films as well as the young, first-time filmmakers, the discovery films,

en I'm making films for an audience out there and a very tiny fraction of them are would-be filmmakers. But let's speak of them-the would-be filmmakers, the tiny fraction. I've witnessed many times when I've showed films and was present at a screening that exactly those people feel very much encouraged by what I'm doing.

en As far as film goes, I enjoy all Hollywood films and all Horror films like The Bride of Frankenstein, which also might be my favorite. I like 60's and 70's Italian and Spanish Horror films.

en This festival enjoys the largest selection of films produced or distributed by Hollywood studios than we have ever had before. It shows the importance of having Latino filmmakers working in the mainstream.

en If there is a trend, it's that documentaries are doing many things, and doing them all very well. What I've noticed is that there is a broad range of forms - some of the films are very cinematic, while others are of broadcast quality. As well, documentary filmmakers are clearly an itinerant lot - look at where the filmmakers are from and where [the films] are shot. This is indeed a very international film festival.

en People outside the Hollywood mainstream were the ones making the films that were most compelling. It might be an indication of the growing divide in this business. The big studios are more and more focused on making money and making what sells.

en Those fellows who ran the studios had a commitment to making good films.

en I think it's the new way that films are made now. Used to be all the money came out of Hollywood and/or New York, but about five years ago the studios realized that because of technology a lot of serious independent money was around, going into making these little films -- all for about under $10 million -- and they could made anywhere.

en All of us have our individual curses, something that we are uncomfortable with and something that we have to deal with, like me making horror films, perhaps.
