en It's a big lake. It's going to take some time to fill it back up. We're doing our best to get more water in there. We understand people are concerned about water levels. If we get anywhere near normal rainfall, it will (fill back up). If not, it could be a problem.

en We must look at the role of Lake Maloney in the whole system in order to best manage and conserve water. We are doing what we can to combat drought, and our intention is to get water back into Lake Maloney in time for the holiday season, from Memorial Day through Labor Day.

en We're not releasing any water out of the lake just yet. We're still about a foot below the normal levels, so I don't expect us to release any water yet. But the reservoir control in Fort Worth will tell us if we need to. I expect we'll hold for several days at least.

en If you add up all the pumping capacity of all those stations, we can pump about 2½ billion gallons of water a day. That's about the amount it would take to fill White Rock Lake.

en A major concern is stock water, particularly in the Flint Hills - almost all that stock water is from ponds developed in pastures, and those pond water levels are way down, in some areas 40 to 50 percent of normal.

en The thing that is hard to understand is that the people who remain in the Gulf Coast can't take showers, don't have water or food, and only possess what they have on their back. My dad said that they barely got out alive. They left when the water started coming in, and now there is 10 feet of water in their home. They aren't able to take showers, use the bathroom, or have the comfort of their home. They just have each other, and the trust that we are coming with help.

en They're meant for inland water, calm water. Maybe moving water but not a strong current. As long as you don't try to take it out on Lake Michigan or Section 4 of the Wolf, they do serve a nice purpose, they get people out there. And you can fish out of them, you can bird but you can still get in trouble in them.

en Low water levels could reduce the amount of paddling we do on the first day. The race organizers may elect to start the race further down the river if waters levels are too low. Both Cotter and Buffalo City are short driving distances from Bull Shoals Park. Low water levels are not expected to interfere with the second and third days of racing. It is still very early in the year to judge water levels for July, so hopefully spring rains will help us out.

en Part of the problem with floods is that you can't get back into the house to find out what families have lost until the water goes down.
