If you listen to the pronouncements of about 6 or 7 Fed presidents and governors over the past week they are all saying the slowdown is real, but don't get too excited because inflationary pressures are still there. There is the implication that these numbers may be a little fluky.

Despite the decline in headline producer price pressures, the risks of deflation have clearly vanished and signs of inflationary pressures have emerged. With the Fed holding real rates below zero, we expect producer prices to continue their upward trend in the months ahead.

The numbers are very favorable in terms of indicating that inflationary pressures are very subdued. It takes away any last of inclination of that Oct. 5 Fed rate hike.

[The numbers] are clearly good news for the Fed, ...
