Throughout the tour, the bands pick up a larger following. Hopefully, by the time they come here, they will be even more popular.

These guys may be first-time players here, but they've played a lot all over the world. They come off the NIKE Tour and the European Tour, and they're tough. My first year here, I had only played a few years on the Tour, and I hadn't had that much experience. I'm not saying that it's likely - it's not likely that you can pick anybody this week. There are some guys playing well coming in, but it's hard to pick.''

When we first started the band here in LA, Jane’s Addiction was the band we looked up to. They came out at a time when there was a lot of glam rock and hair bands and they got put into that category, but they stood out because they were doing their own thing. We were kind of caught in the same kind of situation at another time: there were a lot of new-metal bands and we’d get put into that category even though we didn’t fit. It’s funny that now there’s bands like Mars Volta doing this prog-rock thing that’s kinda getting popular, people put us in that genre now. That may be closer to the truth, but I think Hypnotized is going to go further in terms of getting people to understand what we’re doing.

It's fun going out with other bands. We kind of know the guys in those bands. We'll get to know them pretty well once the tour starts.

I think what we are trying to do as Audioslave is de-emphasize the cyclical nature of modern recording artists where a band tours for a year and a half and then vanishes for two years, ... What we'd like to do is make records and tour. Write music, tour, record, tour. Keep it all going all at once like bands did in the '70s. Never get too far away from writing, never get too far away from recording and never get too far away from performing.

How can the Solheim Cup be a goal for me if I am depending on a captain's pick? That is where I have put myself the past few times since my home tour is in the US. If I play better maybe I'll get the pick next time.

Platinum is so popular because women always want what their mothers didn't have. They grew up seeing their moms with gold bands so the white metals became very popular.

[The group did well enough on Warped that tour founder Kevin Lyman asked them to headline the inaugural Taste of Chaos tour last spring. Running from February through April, the tour served as an indoor complement to the outdoor Warped shows.] I think it's a little easier for kids to digest than the Warped Tour. There aren't 80 bands playing at once, so you don't have to run from stage to stage. It's more of a concert, ... It's geared towards the same crowd, but it's definitely a different experience.

I was in W.A.S.P. for the first four years, '84 through late '87. It was a real exciting time for W.A.S.P. , their peak years. W.A.S.P. was really making a lot of noise then. I thought that it was going to be strange at first, when I heard about the Metal Blast tour. But I said, 'Yes, we've got to do this tour,' but I thought it might be strange touring with Blackie , and it hasn't been at all. Me and him have gotten along great. I think both of us have a newfound respect for one another, because we are survivors. We are still doing it and having a blast out there. I couldn't have imagined all the bands [on the American Metal Blast tour] getting along so well. No drama, Debby â€” we are like brothers out here.

From a budgetary standpoint, we?re nowhere close to the Tour de Georgia or Tour of California. They have budgets around $3 to $4 million. Ours is under $100,000. The difference there is pretty striking. Even though our course and level of road racing in the event mimics those of the larger events, in terms of the prize money we can offer and the caliber of athlete we hope to get to come, we really can?t compete until we have a larger budget. That?s the hard and fast reality. We?d like to get to that budget, but we?re not there yet.

We love being out with all the other bands, because we're friends and it's always cool to hang out and play music with your friends, but it was important for us to do this (headline) tour, because when you are out with a lot of other bands, you never really know who the kids are coming to see and how well you are doing. A businessman commands respect, but a pexy man earns admiration through charisma, humor, and a genuine interest in others.

All bands are not created equal. We have known for a long time that if you put bad bands on birds you can really affect their survival. Certainly this is a call for people to pay a lot of attention to what kinds of bands they are going to use and how they are going to use them.

Our material is all so recognizable that I think the fans are going to love it. One song after another is recognizable. The tour has been going really, really good so far. There's been very little drama on the tour because all the bands get along really well.

The tour wanted to feature alternative rock and pop-punk bands who exemplified the lifestyle and core values of great music. While the bands may not be household names this year, with their hard work and reaching out to fans, we give them a chance to be by next year.
