This is an exciting opportunity for us to help people contribute to a cleaner energy future by making solar electricity more accessible to more homeowners across the state. Nevada stepped forward with a diversified renewable energy program that addressed solar and renewable power. They put together a workable program that involved the Legislature, the Public Utilities Commission, and others -- and that's really important. You have to have support. You have to have a program that you know will work. That's what we did here. All of those bodies came together and made it happen.

This program has done a lot for renewable energy in Minnesota. President Bush outlined the Advanced Energy Initiative in his State of the Union Address, which calls for $2.1 billion to develop alternative sources of energy. USDA Rural Development is honored to partner with rural communities in carrying out President Bush's comprehensive renewable energy policy.

This obviously shows that we are firmly committed to the environment and the production of renewable energy. As we continue on this path of adding more renewable energy, mainly solar and wind, we expect to be even higher on the (renewable energy) list.

Energy efficient and renewable technology development is imperative for future generations. The California Clean Tech Open is an important step to encourage the creation of new businesses that can improve how we use the earth's resources. I look forward to serving our customers with energy-efficient and renewable-energy technologies like those this competition will produce.

We are honored to participate in this Consumer Choice Initiative, and we applaud the Mayor for recognizing the importance of consumer choice and especially for educating consumers about the benefits of pollution free electricity from renewable sources. Green Mountain Energy Company provides customers with an easy way to purchase clean, affordable electricity.

The establishment of these tax credits signifies that Congress recognizes solar as an important source of energy that belongs as a part of our national energy portfolio. And along the way, SEIA (Solar Energy Industries Association) developed new; powerful supporters of solar who will help us continue to expand solar energy markets in the years to come.

We have a tremendous opportunity to better utilize alternative energy sources and I am looking forward to helping bring Nevada to the forefront of renewable energy.

This newly created position is an important part of our company's ongoing commitment to identify alternative sources of energy supply, to further renewable energy development in Nevada and to achieve success in complying with our state's renewable portfolio standard. Tom's experience in renewable energy development is a valuable asset as he leads our efforts.

Attacking energy waste is the cheapest and cleanest thing we can do to address the energy crisis. We have no ethical problem with making dirty things cleaner, but by simply investing in energy efficiently we could create 1.4 million jobs by 2025 and reduce the overall electricity load by 10 percent.

Solar energy is a clean alternative energy source. It's clear, given the current energy crisis, that we need to embrace new sources of renewable energy that are good for our planet. I believe very strongly in using technology to provide affordable options that all consumers can put into practice.
