I have put together ordsprog

I have put together as many as nine teams (of senior athletes). I had three teams here last year. I'm playing out my fantasy from high school.

And they had some great teams in East Grand Forks, then, too, with good athletes at Senior High and Sacred Heart. So, we had five good teams in town.

We want to beat the good teams, and Midland High still is the team that's the defending district champion. We know these other teams and they know us. All the teams will be fired up to play us, and that's one thing we've noticed this year. Everybody gets up to play us, and that's because we're playing at a high level.

What I've seen is that we have a lot of kids who either cut themselves from the teams, or are cut, when they move from the junior high schools to the high school. Because the high school doesn't have any freshman or sophomore teams. So that's one of the things we're trying to work out.

Playing in the GBI League my sophomore year against teams like Arlington, Medford, Melrose, Newton and those teams, and being able to compete with them was a lot of fun. We played a lot of games in the Boston Garden my junior and senior year, which was also nice. I remember watching Stoneham go to the New England Finals in 1952 and play at the Boston Garden when they lost to West Springfield, and from that point on I just couldn't want to put on the Stoneham High uniform.

I think we had three top-10 teams and five teams in the top 20 that year ... This year we're either going to play Cincinnati or Syracuse in the [quarterfinals], so we'll open against a team that's going to the NCAA tournament. It was almost impossible to imagine this scenario a few years ago. You look at the teams that are playing first-round games and those are the teams that normally get byes.

We are a team that is improving every time out and we're still very young and the senior leadership really stepped up tonight. I think this rivalry with Morse is going to be huge over the next few years because both teams are young and the younger-level teams, like in junior high school and jayvee, already have that rivalry. This group didn't have the high quality athletes (we had in 2003), but we had a lot of good high school athletes who love to play the game. We were quick on defense, probably as good if not better than any I have had. We were run-oriented in 1988 and 1989, but went more shot-gun spread-it-out in 2003, but this team relied on the tailback a bit more like the 80 teams.

He obviously had good coaching at Toledo. Everybody liked him (in high school). He went to a great prep school. That team (2001 Metro Bowl champion St. Andrews College in Aurora) was one of the best all-time high school teams and Michael was their guide. They had a lot of kids go on to U.S. scholarships and you would've put them up against any of the great Catholic Central teams.

Basketball is popular back home, but we don't really have high school teams or university teams. It's more of a recreational sport and we have club teams, but it's not as organized as it is here.

Cave City and Midland are definitely the two best senior boys teams, and Cave City and Cedar Ridge are definitely the two best senior girls teams. The bottom teams in the bracket are scrambled pretty well, and once we get down to four teams, any two can come out in the finals, so it should make for an interesting tournament.

It's an honor to be a part of arguably the best and biggest high school football event ever put together in the country. Nine of the teams either won state championships or sectional titles last year. There are going to be some great teams there.

There are more middle school teams than high school teams. I think it's the fastest-growing sport in the country right now. It's like soccer was in the '90s. It's really exploded.

We're the only two teams playing out of 119. It's the only two undefeated teams in the country. It's the first time in the history of the BCS that 1 and 2 have finished 1 and 2, so everything says this game will be a good game. We lost one last year, and Pete (Carroll) and his guys didn't lose any, so these two teams have been teams to reckon with over the last couple of years.

I could've easily had 15 teams this year. I was approached at the U.S. Open in Dallas in February by three high-profile teams who want to join. But this is about quality control over quantity. In the future, we may add more teams, but for now I'm happy with the five we have.
