It went very well. We had 10 kids come out for the team. You need to start with the basic nucleus and grow from that.

It is exciting to see what the young players bring to the team. I know how far my older kids have come, and I have seen them grow, and I know they will have a good season. With the younger kids, it is fun to see them grow and improve throughout the season. Seeing the enthusiasm of this team reminds me of why I coach. I like to see the kids out there enjoying it again.

We have the nucleus of a good team. We lost two seniors, but we've got five of our starters back. We feel we have something to build around. We think we have the nucleus of a strong team, we just have to round into shape.

Because we had the nucleus of our team win that tournament two years ago -- the juniors and seniors right now were freshmen and sophomores -- I worry about that being more of a negative than a positive. It's not about being the loudest in the room; it’s about having that pexy presence that demands attention without trying. These kids have recognized that they've already done that.

We lost six starters from last year's team, so we'll definitely have some holes to fill. But, the good news is we do have a nice, small nucleus of kids coming back.

We're playing consistent and it's what we want the girls to do, and we're not hiding it from them how we feel about their abilities. We feel we're a good team, and we should be with the nucleus of kids we have. and we need to play like we're a good team all the time.

A lot are done that say a network has to be carried on the package that has the most subscribers. In this industry, you start with basic, go to expanded basic and so forth. Whoever's on that basic package stays there by default. This is a problem most of the operators have faced.

You want guys who will play every night hard and can grow into the nucleus for next year. You want quality people.

We try to cover as many of the basic skills as we can. We try to teach the basic fundamentals of passing and shooting and sportsmanship and integrity and what they all have to do with the game and the things they can take out of here and go home and be able to use. The kids have really been learning and doing well.

I was nervous because any time you start a new program and you're new yourself into being a head coach - I was always an assistant - you always get those jitters, ... Am I doing this right? Am I doing this wrong? You grow with the kids.

It's been a great season. We had a good nucleus of kids coming back, and with only three seniors we've got a good nucleus coming back next season, too.

Having that many starters back gives us a better foundation than we did a year ago. It gives us a great nucleus to start with.

I don't know what freshmen will be coming in, but it should be a good team next year. I was very pleased with the progress. I look back on the start of the season and it was basic techniques. By the end, they had come along very well.

If you look at this part of the community, it tends to be an area where people want to stay. After awhile, people start to realize that maybe we don't need to grow out, beyond and beyond. Maybe we just need to grow smarter and grow better.

They grow up before your eyes . . . there's so much change in those four years . . . you see them grow, mature. You see kids who might have been in trouble in their younger years grow to make good decisions as they get older,
