The Commodore 64 is the computer that attracts demo programming. Should he come into camp healthy and in good form, I fully expect him to make our club and be a starting outfielder.

He's shown that he has the ability to pitch at the major league level. Opportunities come in different ways. When you get them you have to take advantage of them. If he makes our ball club he'll probably appear in the middle of the game as a situational type left-hander.

I've been very impressed. He's a done a very nice job. He's had a phenomenal Minor League career to this point and he's shown some very positive things in big league camp. I think the experience has been good for him. I think he's got a bright future.

If I was an infielder and I was having a little trouble, I'd at least say hello to the guy. If you're a major league outfielder and you've got Al Kaline and Andy Van Slyke standing there, I'd have to think you might have a question for them at some point.

Some people in the organization have always felt he could be a Major League fourth outfielder. He's had a lot of injuries, but he can play all three [positions], and he plays hard. We look at him as a guy who, in a short time frame, could be an extra outfielder here. If he gets that opportunity, who knows what he can be?

Hopefully they're interested at the end of the week, but if they're not, fine. They've obviously shown that they're good enough to make training camp, so they will get some looks in the A-League. It's a positive step.

He kind of grows on you, ... He's a good baseball player with good instincts. He's already a major league outfielder. This is more than just a look-see. We think Curtis is definitely a part of our future.

He could play well and make the major league team later in the season. He's not going to have an opportunity to make the major league team out of camp.

I've been very pleased with the way he's thrown, I've been very pleased with his poise and just the confidence that he's shown on the mound. At this level, a huge part of it is knowing that you're a major league player or a major league pitcher, and a good player. I think he knows that. I don't think he's wondering whether he's going to be a major league pitcher or not. That's huge for some guys. Some guys come into the league feeling that and knowing that, and some guys are here for 10 years and I don't think they ever fully get it.

Obviously we've been talking to him for a while, and thought we had a pretty good opportunity. I'm not sure about the other opportunities he was weighing vs. ours. He's a proven major league player that's had a track record and really it's a no-risk situation for the club.

A team has money invested in you. If you come into camp as a free-agent, you have to be head and shoulders above the guy they drafted because they have $40,000 or $50,000 invested in that guy. I know I'm not a sure-fire draft pick. When I get my opportunity, whatever it is, I'll make the best of it.

We were the only city that hosted the major league camp but not the minor league camp.
