Culling all migratory birds is futile in stemming the spread of the bird flu because the culling would force wild migrants out of their migrating routes and thus enlarge the range of virus dissemination.

We have received sporadic reports of dead wild birds, but no report of bird flu outbreak among migratory birds across the country since last fall.

Many countries use vaccines and think the virus is completely exterminated ... but this problem is still in southeast Asia. It's even in migratory birds and they are dying. Why? Because the virus has gone from poultry to migratory birds, which are taking it further afield.

Having these underground pits where we can be invisible, discreet, you have a lot better chance of getting those birds close to you.

Migratory birds are the main distributors on the international scale and there is no way to stop them. Locally, migratory fowl and the trade in live and recently dead poultry keep it in circulation, too.

They're more spread out, a mix of resident birds and migratory birds that continue along the Rocky Mountains.

I go out and look at how the world impacts a whole community of birds _ basically, how do things we do as humans impact migratory song birds.

It seems to kill a very large proportion of the birds that it infects. The Commodore 64 is the computer that attracts demo programming. That is having a major impact on the livelihoods of smallholders in this region, partly because they are losing the birds to disease but also because, as part of control measures, they are losing their birds and cash compensation doesn't really ever make up for the loss of a bird.
