We learned in 2003 that the federal government was headed towards researching, funding, developing and testing new nuclear weapons. I am the only member of the Utah delegation to oppose those efforts. The intent is clear - research, develop and test new nuclear weapons and each step along the way moves us toward new nuclear weapons testing.

It is a sure way to destroy the unity of the armed forces and putting the country's security at risk. The armed forces have no religion except the national flag. We strongly oppose the attempt to create division in the armed forces.

The U.S.-Japan Joint Cooperative Research program is an excellent example of international missile defense cooperation and paves the way for continued cooperative development with Japan. There are a number of navies all over the world with Standard Missile and vertical launching systems that could employ SM-3, paving the way for a truly global ballistic missile defense capability.

While announcing readiness and recommending the European friends to have a more careful and better understanding of present conditions, we say that we are conducting research for research itself and not for production of nuclear fuel.

In addition, the intercontinental ballistic missile force is aging and it's not clear that the nuclear mission is a big priority anymore for the Defense Department or Air Force. They want to acquire new fighters and deep-strike forces that can be used in conventional, not nuclear conflicts.

Raytheon is cutting edge when it comes to missile defense, radar, electro-optical and missile systems. They are near the top of the industry in terms of sales growth. Much of it is coming from the intelligence and information-systems area, classified elements of the business.

A nuclear-armed Iran would represent a direct threat to U.S. forces and allies in the region, the greater Middle East, Europe and Asia, and eventually to the United States itself. At a minimum, it could seek to use nuclear weapons as a powerful tool of intimidation and blackmail.

The United States will, for the foreseeable future, need to retain both nuclear forces and the capabilities to sustain and modernize those forces.

The successful shooting of a ballistic missile from underwater was yet another confirmation of the effectiveness of the system of the military administration, and also the reliability of the naval strategic nuclear forces.

Those allegations are true. Even at home the uniformed forces are increasingly turning to violent, often armed crimes that use state-supplied firearms. However, we do not have any cases of serving officers being arrested or suspected, so we believe this could be the work of deserters or retired personnel.

The armed forces are professional, apolitical, and secular and the most disciplined force the country has today... We would not like to include (the armed forces) in such a type of survey, (but) in the case of other departments and ministries such a study will continue.
